Chapter 4

Millie was singing 'Needy' by Ariana Grande at the cafe on a cosy morning. Her guitar skills were good so they sounded amazing with her voice. People were clearly enjoying her singing and left her tips in the basket she had laid out.

Her singing shift got over so she started waitressing at the cafe. She was delivering coffees to people who had ordered it. She was looking cheerful despite having only 4 hours of sleep everyday so that out the customers to a happy mood.

"Millie," Liam called her as he got into the coffee house and she glanced at him. She hasn't spoke to him since he stormed out of her apartment a few days ago. She went back to serving drinks to people but he came next to her.

"I am sorry Millie. I was stupid," he started but she was uncomfortable because she was working.

"Liam, I'll talk to you later. I'm working," she said gritting her teeth and went back to serving the customers.

"I really like you Millie. I screwed up big time. Forgive me," he said and she took him outside, in the chilly afternoon to talk to him. It was a chilly day today.

"Liam, I am working. I will talk to you later. Please," she said going back in and did her job. Liam stormed away as usual angrily but Millie didn't bother about it because she had to do her job to get paid.

Her shift ended early so she went to Liam's apartment to meet him. It was in the evening, a couple of hours just passed since they had talked and Millie was ready to forgive him. She opened the door because it was unlocked.

"That was amazing," a girl's voice was heard from his bedroom and she heard some moans. She knew what was happening there.

"Liam!" she said loudly and she could hear shuffling in the room and a half naked Liam appeared in front of her, looking at his feet.

"What are you doing here Millie?" he asked innocently and came to touch her but she pushed him away with her finger.

"Don't you dare act innocent. You and I are over. Never come near my apartment or call me," she said walking out his apartment. She felt betrayed. Her boyfriend was first rude to her and now he was cheating on her.

She went to the restaurant and cried in one of the bathroom stalls but she came out eventually and wiped her eyes. She did her makeup and walked out for her shit. She was smiling at everyone as she did her job even though she was sad inside.

"Millie, you are amazing! The president of our university decided to fund my department," Ethan said as she got to their table and she gave him a big smile but he could see her eyes red and teary.

"Congratulations Ethan! The drinks are on the house," she said giving them their drinks but she was visibly upset.

"Millie, what happened?" Ethan asked and she gave him a small smile.

"I went to meet Liam after he came to the cafe trying to talk to me. I went to his apartment and found him cheating on me so we are over," she said and the boys stopped smiling. They felt bad for her so they held her hand.

"It's alright guys. Don't let this bother you. Let's celebrate!" she said smiling and they smiled too trying to cheer her up. They eventually left the restaurant with Millie and on the way, they were discussing about a themed party they were having at their university for Halloween.

"Alright, I am 'Captain America', Alex you be 'Hawkeye', Daniel be 'Thor' and Henry you be 'Iron man'," Ethan said and the boys nod.

"Hey, what about me?" she asked and they all looked at her surprised.

"You want to come with us?" Alex asked and Millie nods like it was something obvious.

"Just because I don't read the comics doesn't mean I don't watch the movies. Like guys, I am a fan," she says and the boys laugh.

"Alright you can be our 'Black Widow'," Ethan said and Millie screamed and cheered for herself. She was happy that she gets to be Natasha Romanoff.

"I get to be the 'Black Widow'. I am Scarlet Johansson now," she said and the boys laughed. They decided to stop at the university book store to check out some new books and Millie decided to hang out with them.

"Wow!" Millie exclaimed and as soon as she said that, all the men in the store looked at her. They were staring at her no matter where she went and the boys noticed it because not many girls who looked like Millie come into this store.

"Boys, I'll go look at some," she said walking to the new arrival's aisle.

"Hey, excuse me? Can you tell me which one's the better one?" she asked and a man turned around and pointed at the right now, the most popular one that was out and Millie smiled at him.

"Thank you. I am Millie," she said and the man smiled.

"Fred," he said and Millie smiled. He showed her some more books she might like and he was right. She did like those.

"Thank you so much Fred. You are a sweetheart," she said touching his shoulder and he almost melted under her touch because he wasn't as always used to girls like her touching him. She paid for her books she decided to buy on a budget but the boys had university discount so they used it, even though she insisted she pays for it.

"Thank you for the trip to the book store Ethan. I liked it," she said and Ethan smiled at her.

"You're welcome," he said smiling and she invited him over for some drinks. She brought out some wine for the both of them and poured it into their glasses. They enjoyed their time together and drank their wine.

"You know Millie, Liam didn't deserve you. You are way too good for him," he said and she smiles.

"Thank you Ethan. That is very sweet of you," she said and placed her head on her couch and slept because she was exhausted. Ethan took her to her room and placed her on her bed and covered her with her sheets.

He looked around her room and found it so happy and cheerful. She had pictures of her and her friends all over the walls, fun decorations, many clothes, shoes and jewellery. Despite having many things, her apartment was always so clean.

He went to the bathroom to use it and found it very well decorated too. It was so well lit and it had Millie's fragrance smell throughout the house so he liked it.

He just compared how different the both of them were, just looking at their apartment. His apartment was grey and blue, very dull and minimalistic but Millie's was bright and filled with colour, making it full of life.

She was such an adventurous and socially active person where as he was kind of a nerd. He thought about all of these and realised that Millie and he were polar opposites. Even if something had happened between them, he thought, they wouldn't last together because they were so different.

He eventually walked out of her apartment and went to his own. He found his walls bare and had no pictures hung up even though there were some nails in the wall. He brought out some picture frames of his family and friends, one with Millie and he hung it up.

It made such a big difference and his living room looked so much better than it did before. It might be a little add on but it did make the room a bit more livelier.
