Chapter 29
"Love?" Millie says and Ethan looks at her and holds out his hand for her and she takes it smiling. Millie was dressed in a black velvet material with a bandeau plunging neckline and thigh high split with huge black earrings and black clear strap heels.
She had her hair parted in between and was pulled back into a sleek ponytail. She had subtle makeup with red, bold lips. She looked beautiful.
To match Millie, Ethan was dressed in a black suit with black unbuttoned underneath it. His hair was a bit long so it was gelled back messy. He had his glasses on, just the way Millie liked it and they looked like a power couple.
She had her ring on, the one Ethan had given her on her hand and that was all the jewellery she needed.
"Millie!" David says walking up to her with her arms wide open and she hugged him tight.
"You look so beautiful," he says smiling.
"You look so smart," she says and he smiles.
"How are you Ethan? You look handsome as well," he asks looking at him and Ethan shook his hand.
"Do you guys have your masks with you?" David asks and they nod. They put on their eye masks. That was necessary because they were at a charity masquerade ball and it was mandatory to wear one.
"Come on," he says and they follow him. Millie saw so many rich people around her. All along, Ethan held her hand.
Jaden's eyes fell on a woman dressed in black. Even from miles away, he would've recognized those ocean blue eyes. She looked so beautifully breathtaking. He stopped everything he was doing and just stared at her.
Millie looked at Ethan as he whispered something to her and she laughed. Jaden couldn't hear their conversation but he knew that Millie was in love. Everyone could see that she was in love with Ethan.
Annie, who was next to him, was dressed in a beautiful pink satin dress. She held his hand and he looked at her and gave a small smile. She knew that he saw Millie and that he missed her. They sit down as the auctions started.
"People are so rich," she says and Ethan nods.
"I swear," he says and she laughs. They sat close to one another while they had a que card with a number on it.
"And here is a beautiful vintage diamond from the 18th century. It is an emerald cut shaped 10 carat pink diamond ring," the bidder says and Jaden looked at Millie because that was hers. That was her engagement ring that he had given to her.
"That's yours isn't it?" David asks and Jaden could hear their conversation so he leaned a bit forward.
"Used to be," she says.
"Why?" he asks.
"That ring is pointless to me. It's so expensive that I don't know what to do with it now that I don't wear it. At least that is going to help someone who really needs the money," she says and Ethan smiles, proudly.
"5 million," someone called out.
"8.5 million!" someone else says.
"10!" someone calls out.
"16!" they said and the money kept going up.
"20 million!" someone says and it was sold to them. Millie looked at them and smiled at them and thanked them. Jaden just sat back and watched.
"Now a beautiful Malibu beach house with 4 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms!" the bidder says.
"2!" someone calls out.
"3.5!" someone else says.
"3.75 million," Millie says and everyone looks at her.
"4!" someone says.
"5," Millie says.
"5.75," he says.
"6," Millie says.
"6.5," he raises it.
"8 million," Ethan says and Millie looks at him.
"8 million, going once, going twice and sold to the couple in black," he says and Millie looks at him.
"Why did you do that?" she asks confused.
"Because you wanted it," he says.
"Yeah, I was just finishing up the money Jaden gave me. I didn't want to have it," she says and he smiles. Jaden wanted to show off and gave her a lot of things when they got divorced, knowing that Millie won't ask for anything. He wanted to feed his ego.
"And I was doing the same," he says and she smiles widely. Jaden had to pay the tenants of the apartment building since he was evacuating them and he had given Millie and Ethan more than the others. Ethan was making shit ton of money too now.
They had purchased a house in Los Angeles, together and they had moved in. They both had fallen in love with the house they saw and decided to buy it.
"We have a vacation home in Malibu now. And it's on the beach," he says and she laughs and kisses him.
"Thank you," she says and he kisses her again. She laughs and wipes off the lipstick from his lips.
"Millie?" he says as she rests her head on his shoulder and she looks at him.
"Want to get some fresh air?" he asks and she nods, so they go to the balcony. The fresh, cool breeze hit their face as the moonlight shined on them. He held out his hand for her as the music starts and she took it.
"You are the most beautiful woman," he says looking into her eyes and she smiles, planting a kiss on his jaw. They were swaying to the song that was heard slightly, while standing on the balcony.
"I could spend the rest of my life with you, just like this," she says as she rests her head on his chest. She could hear his breath fastening and as she looked up, tears were rolling down his face.
"Ethan? What happened?" she asks concerned.
"Did I say something wrong? I'm sorry," she says and he shakes his head.
"I thought that it mattered what I said or where I said it. I was confused as to how and where would be perfect for it. Then I realized the only thing that matters is that you," he says as he wiped his tears and she looked at him, surprised.
"You make me happier than I ever thought I could be. And if you'll let me, I will spend the rest of my life trying to make you feel the same way," he says as he gets down on his knee and gets out the ring.
"Millie, will you marry me?" he asks and she puts her hands over her mouth as tears roll down her face. They both were crying.
"Yes," she says and he got up and kissed her after slipping the ring onto her finger. She held this face and kissed him, once more, taking in all of him.
"I was scared. I didn't know when to do it. I didn't know how big it should be or how many people should surround us but I realized that all I want is you," he says and she wipes her tears as she kisses him again.
"Do you like the ring? It's not as big as your previous one but-," Millie stopped him by kissing him. It was a 4 carat oval shaped diamond ring with a platinum band and she loved it so much.
"Money or the size of the ring doesn't matter love. You and I is what matters. I love this ring and I love you more than anything," she says and he hugs her and swings her around as she laughs.
As he sets her down, she looks into his eyes. She couldn't believe that she was engaged to the man she never even thought would love her back. She was so happy with him.
Jaden had seen all of it. He had seen them getting engaged and that reminded him of the time when he proposed to her. She seemed to be so much happier now, more than when he had proposed. She seemed to love the ring that Ethan gave her too and not Jaden's.
Annie came over and kissed his cheek, bringing him back to the present. He smiled at her.
Ethan and Millie walked back into the party and grabbed two glasses of champagne and drank it by themselves. They didn't find the need to announce it to the whole world that they were engaged because they were so happy with one another.
