A loud cry of someone stuck inside the house halted the villagers. Though it was only for a second, as they ignored the cries and continued on their way out.
"Let's get out of here." Ahana's sentence caused Sameera and Neer to look at her unbelievingly.
"There are people stuck inside. Shouldn't we at least try and help them?" Neer asked, barely trying to hide his fury.
"Yeah, I agree with him. If you have been given powers, then it becomes your responsibility to save people," Gyaan butted in, making Ahana's temper rise up to a notch.
"Responsibility, my foot! Look at those people, they are running away without any thoughts of helping their own friends and neighbours. If they can be selfish, then why we- the total strangers to them, can't leave.
"Moreover wind isn't even our power. Unlike someone, I don't have the habit of butting in when things are out of my control."
Ahana didn't need to name for others to understand that she was speaking about Gyaan- The one who had been meddling with everything since they met him.
Ahana took a hold of Neer's hand and dragged him away from others. They already got into the mess while trying to save people last time. She didn't want any such drama in her life again.
Sameera sighed, looking at the twins going away. However, she didn't have much time to grieve for their parting as urgent matters awaited her presence.
Taking Gyaan's guidance, she willed with all her might to help everyone.
"Let's try and get everyone out of their houses before they get trapped under the fallen ceilings and walls," Sameera said with determination and ran with all her might to get the people out.
"How did she manage to run in this wind? I am not even able to stand," Kriti asked as she looked at the way Sameera had left.
Nothing was visible other than white fog and dust particles. They could only see what was near them.
"Air is her power. This windstorm doesn't affect her," Gyaan answered. He wanted to go with Sameera. However, the wind wasn't too kind to him.
Sameera just focussed on getting the people out, knowing that concentrating on her powers was useless.
She alone couldn't do much, but still Sameera tried her best. This time around, she was determined to save the people. And it was enough. Her determination was enough for the air to intervene.
The windstorm didn't stop but its intensity died down to a huge level. Light materials were still flying about, hitting people but heavy machines and ceilings stopped shaking.
"Let's hurry before the wind picks up again," Tej muttered.
Gyaan and Kriti nodded, agreeing to his words. She looked at other researchers if they were willing to help.
The older researchers wanted to help but they were worried about their kids too. Staying here for longer meant risking their children's life.
"We shall help them, Dad. I am sure it won't take much time if we all go to help together," Rewa said, giving a squeeze to Reyansh's hand.
Reyansh nodded and looked at everyone who wanted to help.
"Sarika, take the younger kids and leave right now. We will come and join you soon," Reyansh instructed.
"But Sir," Sarika tried to protest but Reyansh didn't want to hear anything.
Tagging the five and six year olds among them was out of question. And Sarika had knee problems. If the wind picked up again, she wouldn't be able to run and save herself. It was better for her to leave when things had calmed down.
Sarika sighed but didn't argue with her team leader. She started gathering the kids. Before leaving she checked once again to see if anyone was left behind.
Ayaan giggled internally as the old lady didn't even realize that Avan was missing. Having only met Avan today, it didn't cross Sarika's mind that there was one more kid than the usual group.
Ayaan too quietly went along with her, winking discreetly at Avan who was hiding behind the tree.
When Gyaan was having conversation with the other three elements, he didn't know that Avan was also listening. Now Avan was convinced that he was responsible for saving everyone as he had powers. And for that he needed to stay here.
"Oh! Didi and Bhaiya are still here!" Avan exclaimed happily as he saw them standing a little away from the tree.
His voice caught Payal's attention. She swiftly moved towards where he was standing.
"Avan! Why are you still here?" She asked or more like yelled, as her heart started beating like crazy.
"Oops." Avan facepalmed with his tiny hands. He gave away his hiding spot in the excitement of finding Ahana and Neer.
As Payal fretted over Avan, Gyaan moved towards the twins.
"Did they change their mind?" He mumbled to himself as he went near them.
Upon going closer, he saw a scared Ahana hovering over Neer who had gotten hurt. A sharp object that was floating because of wind had hit Neer's forehead, causing him to bleed profusely.
Gyaan cursed under the breath upon seeing his condition. Even if the twins wanted to help, they wouldn't be able to do much. After all, injuries caused their energy to dip at a double speed.
"Ahana, go with the researchers to help them. I will help Neer," Gyaan directed.
"Shut it," came Ahana's response.
Gyaan closed his eyes to get rid of the frustration he felt for the fire girl. Until this date, there was no one who went against him, especially when he was guiding or directing them. Everyone except this fiery girl.
"Move aside." Gyaan all but pushed Ahana away, who was desperately trying to stop Neer's bleeding.
Gyaan opened his bag and took out some useless grass he had gathered. He made a show to crush them in his palms and applied it to Neer's forehead.
"What are you applying to him?" Ahana asked cautiously. She didn't trust this guy one bit.
"Herbs. They have great medicinal value," Gyaan lied as he continued the act.
Gyaan concentrated on his power as his hands caressed Neer's forehead, while simultaneously trying to act like he was just applying the medicine.
"The bleeding stopped," Neer spoke in awe as his hand went to his forehead.
"Oww!" He cried as touching it still hurt.
It had to hurt. Gyaan made a great effort to not heal Neer fully. Or else the twins would have doubted his lie about the herbs.
Gyaan tried to look arrogant about helping Neer to maintain the act, while internally he was just so tired. Helping Avan's plant was far easier than closing an element's wound.
Ahana stared at Gyaan, trying to figure out his truth. She wasn't so gullible to fall for his act. His eyes looked tired all of a sudden.
If Gyaan thought he succeeded in his act, then he couldn't be more wrong. Ahana didn't know exactly about what he was, but she definitely knew that Gyaan was not an ordinary guy.
