Chapter 29

Savanna's POV

I hope I'm doing the best thing. I know it's so immature to get a tad mad at Sam. He probably had his own reasons. I was tempted to run back to him and forgive him. I wanted to listen to him.

But as I said, I need time and space. I need to think this through.

I sighed and jogged to my house. It wasn't really far from here.

"Why did you come home late?" Shane asked, getting a milk box from the refridgerator.

"I had to walk home." I said. This wasn't a lie. I'm just not telling him the whole thing.

"Yeah, well.." He chugged down the milk. I saw his adam's apple move upward and downward. "I waited for you in the parking lot for like thirty minutes." He went nearer to me and stopped in front of me, his arms folded across his chest. "Look at me in the eye, Savanna and tell me where you were." He widened his eyes and furrowed his brows which I found funny in some circumstances. But now wasn't the time for laughs.

"I was on a date, Shane Eastwood." I spoke out bitterly and rolled my eyes.

"With who?"

"Luke." I replied. I hate how this guy has a power over me like I felt like he could make me do something he wants.

"Savanna?" He called out. I was recently lacing my fingers with my hair. I looked up at him.

"Yeah?"

"Can you do me a favor?" He asked, his eyes full of worry and concern, it made me feel guilty of liking Luke.

"Sure. Anything."

"Don't fall in love." He said, mostly like a command than a request.

"Excuse me?" I furrowed my eyebrows. "What do you mean?"

"You may love him, but don't fall." His dark blue eyes held a lot of intensity. "Because everything that falls, breaks." He looked like he was about to cry.

"I still don't understand." I was really curious.

"Don't love him too much because it will hurt so much." He said. Damn, this guy could be a quote king. "Love is not what it seems to be, Savanna. You'll not always go head-over-heels, because there will also be a time where you'll stumble and fall."

"Shane." I croaked, then I felt a tear slide down my cheek. "Why are you saying this?"

"It's because I care for you. You're the only thing I have right now." He sighed. "Mom is barely home, dad doesn't even care about us and--"

I hugged him. This conversation was getting too far. "Shane, I'm not going to fall." I moved back a little to see his face and gave him an assuring smile. "Because there'll be someone who'll catch me when I fall."

"How can you be so sure?"

"Come on, sillyhead. Let's eat some dinner." I let go of him and gave him a smile. There was food already on the table and I smelled the sizzling steak in the air. I realized my jaw dropped.

"You did all this?" I asked. He nodded and scratched at the back of his neck. "I wonder how you even did this. Last time I checked, you burned the whole kitchen am I right?"

He chuckled. "I cooked with the help of YouTube."

"I see." I gave him a mischevious smile.
