3rd POV:
The first time Ramin held her, he cried.
She'd been so calm and composed as she sat in the waiting room, anticipating when she'd hear the call of the midwife to usher her in to see their son or daughter, they didn't know what gender yet, it seemed like lifetimes they'd waited for this one moment, and felt like days waiting in that hospital.
All the while, Ramin's hand had been holding hers, so tight and secure with a hidden promise that he was still there and just as excited as Sierra. And every time Sierra would look up, a tense breath of air would escape her lungs, Ramin's smile would be there to meet her eyes and every worry would vanish.
When a rush of nurses began to filter up and down the corridor, all rushed steps and quick voices, Sierra's heart began to race like she'd never have expected it to. For a while, she felt ignored and almost helpless. Worries began to pass through both of their heads as the ward was alight with movement and sound, supplies being carried in and surprisingly quiet sobs filtering their way out of the room where their adopted child would be, seeing the light of day for the first time. Ramin and Sierra tried very hard for conceiving a baby but after much testing and medications, the results came back that Sierra was infertile, after the devastating news, the Karimloos decide to adopt.
Ramin found himself smiling at just the thought, and wondered how Sierra would react when that fateful moment would inevitably arrive. He must have been too obviously caught in his own thoughts, because he almost jumped when he felt a squeeze on his hand, Sierra looking at him and smiling softly.
"You okay?"
Sierra muttered, voice hushed from the now silent waiting area, Ramin found himself nodding instantly. Although anxious, the excitement was building inside of him quickly. With each long minute passing by, they were one step closer to completing thefamily they yearned for. Yes, Ramin has his beautiful boys that he loves dearly but having a child with Sierra was beyond amazing.
"How about you?"
"I think I'm okay."
Ramin leaned over and pressed a kiss to Sierra's temple, soothing the unsure tone in her voice and silently reassuring that everything would be fine. They knew that when a familiar looking nurse approached them both, smiling with a hint of exhaustion to her friendly expression, that the waiting was over.
The room was oddly quiet when they walked in while escorted by the midwife. The only sound they could hear was a quiet, gurgling noise. Ramin had a hand pressed against the middle of Sierra's back as they walked inside, drawing comforting shapes across the shirt.
Their child's surrogate mother was slouched against a pile of pillows, her dark blonde hair slightly disheveled, but yet she had the strength to give a warm smile.
"She's beautiful," she said fondly, looking down as though to emphasize her point. Turning back to them, she looked to Sierra. "You can hold her if you want?" Ramin looked towards his wife and gave an encouraging run of his hand across her back. Sierra suddenly didn't look so sure, and looked down at the pair, wanting nothing more than to hold her baby girl in her arms but suddenly fearing that she'd break her. Fear swam across her, Ramin realized this. "Go on, Sierra. It'll be fine."
She nodded, smiling to herself and watching as her daughter made a small, barely there noise. "I just don't want to hurt her, she's so small."
Ramin felt his chest ache pleasantly at just how tentative the other was being. Pressing a quick kiss against Sierra's lips and stepping forward, he shuffled his position a little before taking the newborn into her arms. His motions were slow and gentle never removing his sight form the bundle of joy in his arms. Memoires of holding Jaiden and Hadley swarmed his head causing tears to flood his eyes. Sierra could feel her throat tightening as she watched Ramin hold their baby girl, the smile on Ramin's face lighting up the whole room.
"She beautiful", Ramin mumbled quietly and honestly. She was quiet and staring up at Ramin like he was the best thing in the world, even if there was so much for her to see.
"What are you going to name her?"
A small tired voice rang across the room and they both looked to the woman who had given them their missing piece of the family. Sierra smiled and was quick to answer.
"Gloria, after my grandmother."
Instantly, the woman smiled as though pleased with the answer. "That's a lovely name."
Ramin could feel himself filling with emotional each second longer he spent looking at Gloria. After a few minutes of gently nudging his daughters hand with just a single finger, he let himself out his daze, hoping he showed his wife there is no way she would hurt her. Ramin couldn't have been happier, he pressed soft kissed against Sierra's cheek leaning his forehead against hers. A small tear dropped fall on Gloria's blanket.
"Hey come on. You're gonna cry on her."
Ramin and Sierra let out a small huff of laughter which didn't stop as Sierra attempted to wipe a stray tear from his cheek, noticing Sierra's own watery eyes as she backed up slightly, raising the camera she brought with her and waiting for it to load. Ramin's eyes never left the sight in his arms until Sierra told him too.
With a somewhat tearful smile Ramin looked up. Sierra took the picture and knew she'd forever hold that image and that memory to her heart. Sitting down next to the love of her life and with their newborn daughter finally in the world everything felt right.
