Christine's POV
I jumped awake, lightning struck causing my dressing room to light up. I tried to calm down. My breathing was quick with terror.I sat up and stretched, the sound of rain pounding against the opera house was the only thing I heard besides my own breathing, which had slowed a bit. A boom of thunder that must've been right overhead because it shook the building. I shrieked and waited for someone to come into the room to see what was wrong, except it didn't happen. I shrugged it off and laid down to go back to sleep. Another clap of thunder. I screamed and tears rolled down my cheeks. It was so loud! I wasn't scared of storms, just it being so close. I sighed and closed my eyes.
"Christine?"
My eyes shot open. It was a man's voice. Very smooth and calm sounding. Even though he sounded concerned for me, he still sounded calm.
"Christine? Are you alright? I-I heard you scream?"
I slowly sat up and scanned the room. I couldn't tell where the sound of his voice came from. There was no one here but me.
"Who-who are you? How do you know my name?"
"Shhh don't worry I'm a friend-an angel of sorts."
"The angel father promised?"
He paused for a moment.
"Of course."
It all made sense now! No one else came to see if I was alright, he did! But father promised an angel of music.
"Father promised an angel of music."
I asked puzzled.
"Oh-but I am Christine!"
He started to quietly sing "La Traviata" It was the most beautiful thing I had ever heard. After he finished he left me breathless.
"A-are you going going to teach me?"
"If you would like."
It sounded as if he was unsure.
"Of course! You are my angel after all!"
"Every night, here at 1 o'clock."
"Why so late angel?"
Because I said."
He sounded angry with me. I shouldn't have questioned him.
"You don't want to upset your angel do you?"
"No-of course not!"
I gasped, he was going to help me be successful.
"You will be a world renowned Prima Donna when our lessons are through."
He said sounding pleased with himself.
"Oh thank you angel that's all I've ever wanted!"
"But-"
He interrupted.
"You must do everything I say."
"Anything angel."
