Erik tried to sit up. He was battered and bruised. After Christine had left he decide it wasn't worth it. She was the only woman to ever she him any kindness. She was probably the only woman that would ever show him any affection. He groaned in pain as he propped himself up on one elbow. The mob was gone. They thought him dead a while ago. He dragged himself to the edge of the lake and tried to nurse his wounds with the water. It wasn't the best idea, but it was his only option. He heard tiny footsteps coming and he flopped back down, pretending to be dead. He kept his groans as quiet as he could, but his broken ribs made that very difficult.
"Erik?"
A familiar voice peeped. She ran toward him and put his head in her lap.
"Oh Erik"
She sobbed. It took him a minute to realize what was going on. His angel had come back to him.
"Ch-Christine?"
He managed to choke out.
"Erik! I'm so sorry. I-I shouldn't have left you. I was sobbing a-as soon as I l-left and Raoul. He-e told me it was okay. I was scared. I'm sorry Erik! I'm so sorry!"
She sobbed and stroked his gnarled cheek.
"Christine you've no reason to b-"
She silenced him with a gentle, yet heated kiss. His heart pounded against his broken ribcage. Three kisses in one day.
"Christine?"
He rasped.
"Wh-why?
Because I love you Erik, and I was too foolish to see it before."
She helped him prop himself up on his elbow.
"This is all my fault. I'm s-"
This time he silenced her by pressing his deformed mouth to hers. He felt her warm tears mix with his. She had confessed her love for him. He must've been dreaming, but he couldn't be for one couldn't embrace a mirage. Erik broke their kiss and pulled Christine close to him.
"Don't apologize for loving me ange."
He sighed.
"Just help me up?"
He chuckled and held his arms out to her.
"Where?
My bed, please?"
Christine nodded and Erik leaned against her tiny frame. She dragged him to his room and gently placed him on his bed. Christine turned to go to the washroom to get warm water to dress his wounds he caught her wrist and stopped her.
"What's wrong?
Thank you.
For what?"
She gently stroked his cheek.
"For seeing the man behind the monster."
He sighed.
