!Ex!GN Reader x Amelia Watson

tw: angst

...

You weren't tired, but heavily exhausted. As you lay flat on your bed, staring at the seemingly black popcorn-ed ceiling, your eyes slowly fluttered; seemingly heavy as they closed.

Your phone was still on at a low brightness as it rested awkwardly on your right hand. Your eyes felt dry since you've been staring at the device without blinking.

"Would she call?" you muttered to yourself. "Would she text...?"

Your heart felt heavy as you thought about your blonde counterpart... formerly your counterpart. Turning onto your side and shutting your phone off, your cheek was wet by the pillow being damp from your previous bawling interlude.

Who knew that all it took was one argument and a relationship that you felt could never flee... fell apart?

Three strong years... gone to waste?

Delusional, you thought positively: couples argue all the time...! It's just time and space each party needs to come to terms with their disagreements. After all, Amelia soothed your insecurities often when it came to trivial matters in your budding relationship.

She'll be back...

And when it became the next morning, still nothing. More time, perhaps.

Then a week.

A month.

And as you leaned against the railing overlooking the interior campus of the Cover Corp. building, your eyes followed the blonde you've been longing for before looking at your phone for the time.

One month and fifteen days, you noted. And to her, with her fellow idols, it seemed like another day in the office.

That familiar pit of unease and anxiety grew back in your stomach, like the very first time she said, "We need to talk."

"Come on, don't be ridiculous, Amelia...!" You breathed anxiously, seething with anger.

"Look, it was just one time!" The detective crossed her arms and gritted her teeth. "You know how busy I am!"

"Solving cases, Ame?!" You snapped. "All of this...! You knew! I told you..."

You began to feel breathless and hopeless.

You turned your head to the table set properly for two, the candle that's still lit, but flickering, had its wax burned all the way through; the plates displaying a genuine gourmet gone cold.

"Our anniversary... Ame..." You spoke out of breath, finding a sense of calm as you began to come to terms with your belief that Amelia would rather prioritize her job instead of your relationship.

Your eyes followed the formerly fresh, not wilted rose petals on the ground to her feet.

"Just... I think we should end things..." She spoke suddenly. "I just don't have time..."

"Wait... what...?" You looked up at her sky blue eyes; hesitant but resolute. "Let's just at least talk it—"

"If I'm just going to keep you waiting... then it's for the best, Y/N." She sighed, dropping her arms to her side, and finally turning a heel to walk away.

"Amelia, wait, please!" You jogged up to stop her with a hand, but she quickly dodged.

"I can't hurt you anymore." Amelia spoke with finality, giving you one last look before leaving... for what felt like for good.
