『tw: angst/comfort』
「Gawr Gura x !GN Reader」
Requested by: @IRINA_MA-Despite your efforts to persuade Gura to stay, your shark friend decides to leave the City of Atlantis in hopes to explore the great unknown.
What she didn't know was what she was going to leave behind.
...
"You can't leave!" You exclaimed, tugging hardly onto Gura's arm.
"I want to see what's out there!" Gura tugged back harder, releasing herself from your grasp.
The shark girl was motivated to leave the Lost City of Atlantis by curiosity, taking her interest in the world above sea level as an exciting opportunity — much less than a dangerous endeavor. She was always that kind of individual — as you knew growing up with her for millennia would most definitely
"You'd probably think the same if you lived here long enough!" She added, turning around and grabbing her trident.
"I've been living here in this damn city just as long as you have!" You rebutted, running in front of Gura's path.
"You can't possibly leave this place and come back without getting your head chopped off," You exclaimed, placing both of your hands on her shoulders. "let alone, leave me!"
"Pfft. Come on, Y/N," Gura swung her trident forward and stared at it under its' glory. "without this thing, I would be a dead fish."
"And since the king recognizes my power, why shouldn't I be allowed to come back?" Gura shrugged, allowing the trident to sink to the ground as she leaned against it.
"Have you ever heard of the Curse of Atlantis, Gura?" You stared at the prideful shark while she stared back blankly.
"Was it something I was supposed to learn in history class?" She tilted her head.
Your heart dropped, beyond disappointment.
The Curse of Atlantis was told to be a fable; where those that had left the Lost City of Atlantis, were forgotten by those who recognized them.
A fable that can't be proven true since those that had tried to leave the city as an experiment wouldn't "exist" in the minds within the city, therefore nullifying the entire occurrence of the experiment.
And as the rules of citizenship and protection stood by birth within the city, returning from the outside "wasteland" meant that you were a threat to Atlantis.
Something greater than being shunned.
Forgotten for good.
Foreign; alien.
And the girl you knew for so long was about to abandon herself from the place she called home.
"Just... don't leave!" You fell to your knees with tears prickling in your eyes.
"What's the matter?" Gura kneeled and picked up your head. "I won't be gone for long - maybe a day or so..."
"I don't want to forget you," You burst out into a full-out breakdown. "once you leave... you leave everything!"
"Forget me?" The shark's face fell subtly. "It's just a tale all the kids were taught."
"Just a little tale...?!" Your voice cracked. "What happens when you try to come back, huh?"
You were crying your heart out, more than you've ever done before. Your face was red to your ears since you choked yourself out from the emotions trying to tell Gura how serious leaving the city was.
