engouement - a french noun for infatuation

The knocking at your front door had you stumbling off of your bed, clumsily scrapping your socks against the cold floor to slide into your slippers, and putting off an episode of Chicago Med.

"Coming!" You called out down the hallway with a volume that if your roommate was around, they'd be pissed.

The sound from the door continued in sets of three, hard knocks as if they didn't hear you practically scream.

Step by step, you made your way downstairs, skipping the last two steps with one hop.

Knock, knock, kn-

"Oh, hi!" The sanguine owl tilted her body to make herself visible as you cracked the front door ajar. She waved happily with an accompanying smile. How cute, you thought, as she peered in a bit more.

"Y/N?" She asked.

You couldn't help but stare at her outfit. She had on a simple cute knit sweater with a characteristic brown plaid skirt. You could see a little bit of a red, almost maroon colored t-shirt that stuck out from under her sweater. She had a necklace and a black choker on too, but it was covered with a comfy red scarf wrapped around her neck.

"Ah, hey, come in..." You came to—luckily quick enough to not let Mumei get swept up in the cold, brisk, winter air.

Mumei was a frequent flier at your home, as a good friend of yours, she indulged in the pleasure of visiting you. There would be reasons to her arrival as well as a warning text, but as of late, Mumei decided to skip the pleasantries and show up at your door unannounced.

You weren't angry or anything as the owl gave you another smile as she took off her boots and placed them neatly next to yours.

"So... what's up?" You asked the idol as she gently kept her hands together in front of her down at her waist, you now closing the door and twisting the deadbolt closed.

"Well," the owl smiled then twirled around toward your living room. "nothing... much?"

"Nothing much, huh?" You followed Mumei as she trotted over to your couch as if she lived at your house all her life.

The living room was essentially the same way how you left it the other night from your series-watching marathons.

Mumei sat down and pulled an unfurled blanket from one end of the couch toward her less-occupied end. Tucking in her knees, she wrapped herself up and ducked her head into the warm shield of the blanket. As she brought it close, it was undeniable to her that the scent emanating from the fluffy cloth was yours. It was as if she could recycle that same air over and over.

"Is... your roommate not here today?" Mumei popped out of the fuzzy enclosure to pose her question.

"Oh, she's... busy?" You shrugged. "She left this morning and didn't tell me a single word or even left a note."
