Hey there, this is Link. That's me, a shy teenager. Nothing more, nothing less. Just a boy.
Aryll is my younger sister, and probably the most amazing sister ever. I'd do anything for her. Even fight off a monster.
I mean, there's nothing more to it, she's just so- Nice to everyone. All the time, no matter what.
Right now, I was watching the sunset from the lookout on our island—Outset Island. It was nice to watch and a beautiful, blinding orange glow came from it. It was kind of hard not to watch.
Aryll was helping Grandma make supper. After running around all day and getting myself exhausted, I'm really hungry!
As I watched the sunset, I started to doze off. I was really sleepy. Hopefully they call me in for dinner before I fall asleep.
"Big brother!!" I heard Aryll call me, "Big brother, time for dinner!"
I climbed down the ladder carefully and ran to our house. It surely smelled like dinner time in there! My stomach growled at the smell of the soup Aryll and Grandma had made.
"Big brother, I heard that! You're hungry, aren't you? Well, we made a bunch, so eat as much as you want!" Aryll said, making me feel a bit embarrassed.
"Aryll, leave your brother be. You know he doesn't like talking very much. But that's okay, Link, eat up. Here you go!" Grandma handed me a bowl of soup. I smiled as if to thank her.
"But, Grandma, why doesn't he talk? I'm sure he has a pretty voice!" Aryll exclaimed.
"Just leave him be."
"...Okay.."
"He may not like talking because he doesn't know what to say, or, he might just be shy. In truth, I'm not sure, Aryll." Grandma explained. Thank god for her keeping it light. I know she knows why I don't speak unless forced, and I'm glad she didn't tell my younger sister.
And I know your asking,
Link, but why don't you talk?...As of that question, I won't answer until later once I feel more comfortable.
I slurped my soup from the wooden spoon and started to feel really happy. Soup always made me happy!
"Link, you know not to slurp. Come on, now." Grandma told me. I nodded and shoved the spoon into my mouth.
"It's okay, big brother! Slurping is fun!" Aryll stood up and reached to pat me on the head. I ducked to try and escape it, but she didn't stop.
Eventually, obviously, she did, but she could've just not done it at all!
"Aryll, your big brother doesn't like that." Grandma basically told her to stop patting my head.
Thank you! Thank you for telling her to stop!

I laid down in bed and tried to fall asleep. The downside to that is—I failed. I just couldn't sleep. That's okay, though, I'll just take a nap tomorrow. Come almost morning, I fell asleep. Finally.
"Big brother!!!" Aryll fell onto my belly, "Wake up!"
"Mmmmmmm..." I rolled back over after pushing her off. I almost never did that. When I did, I was normally sick.
"What's wrong? To you have a tummy ache? Big brother, are you okay?" She poked back above me and rested her hands on my right arm, since I was laying on my left.
"Grammy! I think big brother's sick!" Aryll jumped down off the bed and tapped Grandma on the shoulder.
"Is he? Really? He never gets sick, though, Aryll. I don't think he's sick. Maybe he just has a bit of a headache." Grandma told Aryll.
"No! I think his tummy hurts!"
"Aryll, he's fine."
"No! He's not!"
To be completely honest, my stomach did hurt a bit. But it wasn't a sickness. It was a sort of anxiety—Something about today just didn't sit right, and it stirred up my stomach.
"Fine, then. If you're going to have it your way, get Linky a bucket if he's sick." Grandma told Aryll.
"Okay!" She happily exclaimed. I heard her go running off. Doing that kid stomp-run all kids did. She sang all the way upstairs and down, climbing the ladder and all. I heard the bucket's handle clink to the side of the bucket.
Now I really didn't feel good. I rolled onto my back and propped my head up on the wall. I swallowed back nothing because I was nervous.
I hate throwing up...
It's scary.
It burns your throat just enough to be scary. That's why I hate it so much.
I felt Aryll set the bucket next to me, and I think it triggered me to puke into the bucket.
It burnt my throat more than ever, I panicked and it made me throw up more.
"Link, no! Calm down! You're okay, you'll be just fine!" Grandma assured me.
...But...I'm not okay...
I felt Grandma's hand on my back, trying to calm me down. It didn't work. Actually, I threw up more after that.
"B-Big brother! S-Stop throwing up!" Aryll yelled at me, covering her eyes and turning away.
I would love to, Aryll, but I can't help it. I just couldn't stop.
"Done for now?" Grandma asked me. I gave a nod. She pulled me back to a resting position on her while she rubbed my belly.
I'm not a dog, Grandma! Stop it! Aryll's still here, you know!
It was funny, though, because it actually helped quite a bit. It calmed me down until I fell asleep.
"Grammy, why are you giving him a belly rub?" Aryll asked, about as confused as I was.
"It helps him to calm down and sleep. See? Look how sleepy he looks now. Isn't he just adorable?" Grandma asked Aryll.
"Yeah!" Aryll happily replied.
"Just take a couple deep breaths and settle down a little bit, Link. You're okay, aren't you?" Grandma told me what to do. I inhaled and exhaled slowly and calmly, in through my nose and out through my mouth. "There you go. See? Isn't that better?"
"I don't think he likes that." Aryll pointed out, "I don't think he likes you snuggling him while he's sick, I mean."
"Really? Do you or do you not like, Link? Thumbs up or down?" She asked as I gave a thumbs up. I like comfort when I was sick. "See, Aryll? He likes snuggles. He's not that independent. He likes a little comfort every now and then."
"Oh, well I just thought maybe he was a little uncomfy." Aryll said, trying to be helpful.
Hopefully by noon this anxiety will have calmed itself down...
