A Dark Fortress - Chapter 3

I jogged to the entrance of the forest, trailing not far behind Tetra. Aryll was there on the bridge. I panicked and looked back and forth. She wasn't supposed to be here!

"Big brother!" She exclaimed, running across the bridge, "Did you do it? Did you save her?"

"Whoddya mean her? Because I helped myself! He didn't do much of anything! ...Well, the puked on the ground, but nothing more than that!" Tetra explained angrily, putting her hands on her hips and acting sassy at Aryll.

"You should go and see for yourself at what he did! Come over here, and just take a look!"

Aryll began to walk over across the bridge. Halfway through, the huge bird came flying back directed straight towards her.

"Aryll! Aryll, watch out!" I yelled, pointing to the bird. She looked over at the bird as it swooped down and grabbed her in its talons.

She screamed my name as the bird carried her off, and I drew my sword and started running after the bird.

I forgot we were on a cliff, and accidentally ran off the cliff.

...Luckily, I felt Tetra grab the right wrist and stop me from falling. "Why in the world would you do that?!" She yelled at me, "You stupid kid!"

I wasn't really paying attention until she said two words—

"She's gone..."

I heard her say something else, but starting to feel so dizzy it buzzed out.

G-Gone? ...But...But...Aryll, she...She's...

"Hey, you hear?! I telling you-" Tetra began you yell at me, but got cut off by me passing out.

"Link? Link?! Wake up, stupid!" Tetra shook me awake. I blinked until I woke up completely. "Come on, wake up!"

I groaned as I woke up to see Tetra and other pirates leaning over me.

"He's awake!" A bulky man said, putting a big hand on my chest, "Do you feel alright?"

I gave a weak nod as Tetra pushed him out of the way.

"You're being overdramatic, Link! Of course he's okay, Gonzo, he didn't even get touched!" She pressed her hand onto my forehead as she yelled at Gonzo and I.

I kept my eyes shut tight and let out a grunt to tell her to stop. Hopefully she understands what it means. I think she will.

"Oh," Tetra lifted her hand off me, "I- Uhhhh..."

I couldn't tell if she was embarrassed or just didn't know what to say. I don't think she's the person to be embarrassed, so I just think she didn't know how to react.

...That's how I act around people I love, which is odd, because I'm sure she hates me, right? I just never ever know what to say, even though I don't talk much anyway.

"I- I didn't mean to do that, y'know." Tetra said, acting a bit bashful, "Whatever, Link! Screw it! Gonzo, we're going to the Forsaken Fortress!"

"The Forsaken Fortr- But, Miss! That place—We can't possibly go there!" Gonzo argued back with reason.

The Forsaken Fortress, how I know it, is a forbidden place where an evil man lives. I'm not sure who he is, but that may be just a myth.
