As we pulled up from a long ride of feeling seasick, a large peak of an island appeared over the horizon.

"Link! You see? That's it!"

I groaned in response, and the boat looked back with a worried glance.

"Throw up again, buddy?" He asked as my stomach gurgled angrily. "Why don't we head to the island and you can take a little break, okay?"

I really liked that idea. That's a great idea, boat. You know what? I'm calling him Red. Red the boat.

"Well, are you waiting for your gag reflex to trigger again? Hurry! Set the sail and head for the island!" Red exclaimed, and I lowly put the sail up.

Once we docked, which wasn't long after, I instantly stepped onto shore and threw up everything I had eaten in the past year and a half.

Or so it felt like it.

"Holy crap," Red said, "Are you sure that's just seasickness, Link?"

I choked on the bad taste in my mouth with a light nod.

"Hm. ... You have any stomach problems?"

"Why would you need to know?!" I yelled, losing my temper, "You're not my father, but I wish I still had one, alright?! So stop acting like it and just shut up!"

"I'm sorry, I'm just worried. I didn't mean to hurt you that way, either."

"This whole stupid thing is giving me a headache! Why would I do this?! It's like putting a sail up against the wind instead of with it! I'M NOT GETTING ANYWHERE!" I bashed my head against the rocky cliff.

"Link, stop it! You're only hurting yourself!"

"And how much does it look like I care, on a scale of zero to zero?!"

I proceeded to hit my head against the wall, and Red continued to try and stop me.

"You know why, Link?! Because Tetra and Aryll will miss you if you never com back! Think of your sister right now, how would she feel if her big brother never came back and seemingly died?!" Red screamed the truth into my face.

"I-"

"I-"

"I would feel like the complete failure I am and forever will continue to be, that's how I'd feel. That's how I do feel."

"But you know that isn't true, Link. I can tell you are a teenager who has successfully achieved many things, and that's why I didn't just take you back to your island, Link."

His next two words changed how I had thought forever. Something I never thought I'd hear.

"You're perfect."

I stopped hitting my head against the wall and looked at him. My vision was all blurry, but that's okay. That felt nice in a way.

"I'm...enough for you?"

"Of course you are, Link. So much so that I consider you my partner." Red spoke words I have only dreamed of hearing.

"Part-ner?" I sounded out the word to make sure he had said it right.

"Yes, Link. Partner." Red said, holding a conducting baton in his mouth, "And as a symbol of our partnership, take this. It's the Wind Waker. Do you know how to conduct?"

"Y-Yes."

"Good, now pull yourself together, and whenever you're ready, head inside the hollow of this rock. You'll find the Rito Captain and he may help you in your journey." Red told me as I carefully took the baton from his mouth.
