The constant ringing of my doorbell woke me up from my deep slumber. I sat upright on my bed and groggily picked up my mobile from the nightstand only to see it was six in the evening.
"Merde," I muttered sleepily and stood up on unsteady feet, keeping the comforter wrapped around me. After making sure I won't fall on the ground, I made my way towards the door where I heard Julian's muffled voice calling my name from the other side.
As soon as I unlocked my apartment door, Julian wrapped his arms around me pressing his hard body against mine, suffocating me in a bone crushing hug.
"Julian, I can't breathe," I wheezed and he instantly let go of me.
"You didn't come to office since past two days."
I locked the door and Julian placed the Chinese takeout orders he brought with him on the kitchen island.
"As you can see, I am sick." I coughed at the end for emphasis.
He crossed his arms and looked at me as though I was a kid who stole someone's candy, "You could've at least told me. I got so worried."
I shrugged, "It skipped my mind," and made my way to the counter only to be steered back by Julian towards my room.
I sighed when he made me lay down on my bed, tucking me in as though I was a five-year old baby. He then went towards my closet and came out after five minutes with my laptop in his hand.
"I still don't understand who keeps their laptop in a closet," he muttered and placed it beside me.
"Me. I'm weird." I gave him a sweet smile.
He shook his head exasperatedly but had a tiny smile on his face which gave him out and made his way out of my room, making me frown.
"Pick a movie I'm returning in ten minutes with the food," he called out from outside and a ping went off indicating the microwave was turned on.
"Okay," I muttered to myself and opened my laptop to search for a film.
Fifteen minutes later we were eating and watching Brooklyn Nine-Nine laughing in between at Jake's antics and sometimes commenting in between. I rested my head on Julian's shoulder and a sigh of content escaped my lips.
I could feel his gaze on me and I was pretty sure if I turned around his eyes would have been darkened. Although, for what reason, I had no idea.
"Stop staring at me," I said without breaking my eye contact from the laptop screen where Jake and Judy were having a karaoke session.
He instantly looked away after getting caught red handed and whispered, "I'm not."
I snorted.
A feeling of warmth spread across my body once I realized Julian took care of me that day even though I didn't ask for it. It was a feeling which scared me the most and not because of what he said in college- okay maybe partially because of it- but also because of totally different reasons.
No, Julian deserved far better than me.
Out of corner of my eye I noticed him smiling and I had an idea that he didn't even know about it. I did not want to fall for him again but the heart does what it wants as though it has a mind of its own.
And due to that the feeling of dread pooled in my stomach.

Someone shook my shoulder and I woke up for a second time from my sleep that day.
"Here, have them then you can go back to sleep."
Julian handed me two pills for fever and cold with water and I instantly swallowed them desperate to go back into oblivion.
I lay down again, tightening the comforter around me and Julian stood up from my bed. I pulled his hand and my sleepy state whispered, "Stay," to him before I got lost in my dreams once more.
