Silence.
Deafening silence surrounded me. It was so quiet that even the voices of crickets could be heard from outside. In a different scenario, I might have been enjoying a glass of wine with the peacefulness, feeling content by sitting in the balcony.
But in reality, there was nothing peaceful about that moment. If anything, it was quite the opposite.
"Say something, please." I looked at them with pleading eyes and the frozen look on Hannah and Julian almost made me take my words back by saying, 'It was a prank!'
But it wasn't worth it. One day or another this was bound to happen, I just wished it happened after the wedding.
Han's knees gave out and she fell on the floor, causing me to instantly move towards her but Blake caught her in time. And just by that, the dam of tears inside her loosened.
Each sob out of her broke me more and more.
I silently kneeled before her and removed her hands from her face, cupping her tear-stained cheeks with sheer gentleness.
"Don't cry please." But she cried harder and I hugged her tight, hiding my face in the crook of her neck using everything inside me to not let the tears escape my eyes as well.
Out of the corner of my eye I noticed how Julian stood frozen still. As if sensing my gaze on him, he turned towards me with an unreadable expression on his face.
"How long?"
"Almost two months."
He flinched and rested the weight of his body against the wall for support.
"I should've known," Hannah let go of me and wiped her face with the back of her hand, "All the signs were there. Your hesitation whenever I talked about Julian and you, the bruises on your body, the medicines you took."
A single tear fell from her right eye, "Pour l'amour de la merde," For fuck's sake, "I should've known. I'm the worst best friend ever."
"No, not at all. I'm the one you should blame not yourself Han."
Blake rubbed her back soothingly, "Don't you even fucking dare, Lil. You are an incredible person and anyone would be lucky to have you in their life."
She raised our adjoined hands and kissed them, "I love you, Lilly. No matter what I'll always be there with you. In sickness, in health remember?"
I snorted, "We're not getting married, Han. If anything, you should be saying this to him," I motioned my head towards Blake who had a tiny smile on his face.
"Oh, fuck it," he came for us in a bone crushing hug.
"I love you all," I murmured.
"Me too," Blake said.
Once the moment ended, we got out of his embrace but not before he whispered in my ear, "You should go after him."
I knew what he was talking about because I heard his footsteps behind me and I didn't need to turn around to see that Julian had left the room long while ago.
