"Bonjour mesdames et messieurs!"
Good morning ladies and gentleman.
Upon hearing Lilly's chirpy voice, the chatter instantly died in the lounge where everyone was sitting.
"Today we have our scavenger hunt which I planned after two sleepless nights of thinking." She flashed them a big toothy smile.
"Excusez-moi mademoiselle, I think you should not take the credit for everything when I also helped you." Julian stood beside her with a fake rose between his teeth like a lover.
She gave him a blank look, "What are you doing?"
"Trying to be charming. Is it working?" He removed the rose from his mouth and sat on one knee, presenting her the flower as though proposing.
"Absolutely not." It was a lie they both knew and the betraying smile on Lilly's face further proved it.
In the audience Blake gagged, "Get a room! We don't want to waste our time witnessing you two eye-fucking each other."
Julian cleared his throat and stood up while everyone started laughing and whooping. Lilly was wondering maybe if there was a way to murder someone and not get caught. Though that would make her best friend a widow so she let the thought slide.
"Anyways, so before we start our scavenger hunt, there are a few ground rules which should be followed or else you'll be disqualified."
Julian said, "First rule: You all will be in pairs and have to work mutually. If only one person is working and the other is chilling, the latter will be disqualified."
"Second rule: If you find a clue of another member who's not your partner, you must place that clue from where you found it. If it's misplaced, then you're disqualified." Lilly said in a stern tone and her gaze wandered across the room to make sure everyone heard her.
"Third rule: You are not allowed to help someone other than your partner. If caught, you'll be disqualified."
Lilly sighed, "Last but not the least, fourth rule: If you damage the hotel property, neither me nor Julian will be responsible. You will have to pay yourself."
Everyone nodded their heads.
"Good. Now this how the hunt will be played out: It will be of two hours. The winner would get hundred euros and the pairs are already decided. Remember, the hunt is only on hotel premises; which means the clues can be anywhere in the hotel. One-third of the hotel staff would help us in keeping an eye on each and every one of you. Your phones will be taken away as well so that you don't google answers."
Julian raised his arms, "It's not that we don't trust you but it's exactly that."
Lilly snorted, "The pairs are: Blake-Caroline, Manon-Charles, Arthur-Hannah and Lucas-Emma."
"What Blake? You thought we'd pair you up with your wife? Nah we need a last couple's brawl."
Everyone started laughing at Julian's comment except Blake who was glaring very harshly at him.
Lilly cleared her throat, "Préparez-vous tout le monde," Get ready everyone, "Because your first clue is in this very lounge and your time starts in five seconds!"
Everyone scrambled towards their respective partners after depositing their mobiles on the middle table just as Lilly and Julian started counting alternatively, "One."
"Two."
"Three."
"Four."
"Five!"
"Let the scavenger hunt begin!"
Blake and Caroline were the first pair who found out the first clue the quickest which was hidden inside the pillow cover.
"Open it, open it, open it!" Blake chanted while everybody else were still busy searching for their clues.
"Calm down, I am opening it." Caroline's said in her usual soft voice.
The letter had jumbled words on top of it:
L K E B A
"Wait- that's your name. B-L-A-K-E if we put the words together." Caroline's eyes widened once she joined the dots and gave the letter to Blake who opened it.
It's been a long day, I'm about to burst.
Rush to this, to quench one's thirst.
Blake kept muttering the phase again and again while he and Caroline made their way outside to think about what it could possibly be hinting at.
Meanwhile, on the other hand Manon and Charles had found their clue followed by Hannah-Arthur and Emma-Lucas, whose clues were hidden beneath the couch, under the couch seat and beneath the carpet respectively. The pattern was same of every clue having at least one member's name jumbled across it with the same riddle written inside.
Lilly and Julian sat on the lounge bar when Julian placed two euros on the counter.
"How Lilly? Just how?!"
She smirked in reply before taking a sip of her mojito, "I'm always right. I told you Blake would find the clue first."
Julian scowled, "You're so annoying, why do I even like you?"
"Because I'm hot and who wouldn't love me? Five bucks Hannah would find the next clue." Lilly raised her glass towards him.
Julian clinked his with hers, "On it. Five bucks Manon would find it first."
Lilly winked, "I guess we'll find out soon."
