I rolled over the bed, half asleep-half awake wrapping the comforter around me more firmly when I felt the coldness of the other side. Bright sunlight shone through the balcony and my eyes fluttered open slowly. Birds chirped outside and the peacefulness of it all made me smile lazily. Last night came reeling back into my mind. Every whisper, every touch, every look, every moment we spent together. Again and again and again.
My cheeks heated at those memories.
I sat up in alarm once I realized that my bed was cold. Which meant I was alone.
But my heart calmed down as quickly when I heard the noise of a pan smashing followed by a hissing sound outside my room which was undoubtedly Julian's.
That idiot was making breakfast for us. My heart melted a bit at the sweet gesture.
I finally stood up after having an internal debate whether I should have remained in bed and pretended to be asleep or got freshened up a bit. After picking up Julian's discarded shirt from last night and buttoning it up on myself, I made my way towards the bathroom.
Ten minutes later, I was padding down the hallway bare feet feeling a bit more human and reached to a very troubled half-naked Julian trying to figure out how to make pancakes in the kitchen.
His back was facing me but I could hear the obscenities he was muttering in French under his breath when one more pancake burnt.
I leaned against the counter smiling softly behind him, and observed him getting frustrated minute by minute due to his incapability of making pancakes. After watching his struggle for a few more minutes I decided to make my presence known after all to put him out of his misery.
I wrapped my arms around his bare waist from behind and kissed the nape of his neck before pressing another kiss on his shoulder blade, putting my chin on top of it after.
"Good morning. Someone's having trouble making pancakes."
Julian tensed in my arms before he sighed audibly, turning the stove off. He whirled around so that we were facing each other this time and circled his arms around my waist.
"I didn't mean to wake you up but you know how bad I'm with pancakes yet I tried to make them for you. It was stupid, I'm sorry," he tucked a strand of hair behind my ear.
I raised on my tip-toes giving him a peck on the lips, "Hey, it wasn't stupid. Don't worry, you didn't wake me up. And I absolutely love how you tried to make pancakes for me. I'll help you this time."
His aqua-blue eyes twinkled with adoration, "Man, I love you." He pressed a kiss to my forehead.
We just stood there for a while, enjoying being in each other's embrace until he asked me a question.
"Do you regret last night?" Julian muttered.
My head was leaning against his rock-hard chest and I scoffed playfully, "Do you think I'd be standing here in your shirt, cuddling with you if I regretted last night?"
I looked up at Julian who was smiling softly at me.
"Does that mean I've been successful in making you fall in love with me?"
I chuckled, "Not so fast, honey. But I can promise I'm on the road to that destination."
"Well, something's better than nothing I suppose." He gave me a smug smile.
I smacked him lightly on the arm, "I've to tell you something though."
His face suddenly turned serious, "Something's wrong."
I shook my head at him, "No you goof. After we returned from our trip, I met aunt Jenna and well, she also said the same things as you about the treatment."
"And?"
I shrugged a single shoulder, "And...I changed my mind. I finally understood yours, Hannah's, Blake's and J-J's perspective. I understood the seriousness of the prejudice I was living in and realized how false it was. I realized the value of my life and the people in it and how much everything meant to me. So, I finally decided to get chemotherapy."
The utter joy and the relief at my revelation on Julian's face almost made me kiss him hard. He pressed his palms on his eyes and his lips quivered.
"Oh my god, please tell me you're not joking."
He looked at me with tearful eyes and a smile so huge that it made me give him a watery smile of my own.
"I'm most definitely not kidding. My treatment will start soon after Han and Blake's wedding."
I wiped a few stray tears that left his eyes but he hid his face halfway in the crook of my neck.
He spoke in a muffled voice, "I'm so fucking relieved, Noodle."
It had been a while since I last heard him call me that and it felt real fucking good to hear it again.
I laughed even though I was crying but they were happy tears, "I'm relieved too. But most importantly I'm happy."
He cupped my face and kissed me intensely before we made our way towards the couch in the living room.
"We're together now. No more breaks, no more secrets, no more hurt." He raised his pinkie finger to me.
I peppered small kisses on his face and wrapped my own pinkie around his, "Together."
And together we spent the rest of the day.
