Room after room after room.
Clipton walks you up, down, and over the mansion until your feet are sore. While you do know the massive building far better than you did before, that was never your goal, and you know that it isn't Clipton's goal either. His directions have become more scattered as you go, and his explanations of each room have become lackluster. Even Noelle, with all of her kindness, seems to be losing patience. Her ears keep flicking in what can only be irritation.
And now, Clipton opens a door and reveals a room that you have definitely seen before. He forces out a laugh.
"-Er, this room! Is... very important, so I'm showing you twice, so you remember! Right! Yeah. Uh." He chuckles nervously.
You groan in frustration. "Listen, you've been a good guide, but there's nothing else to see here. There's a whole other floor, right? Why don't we go up there?" You step backwards and out of the room, starting to head down a hallway at random.
A yellow pop-up advertisement appears in your path, cutting you off abruptly.
"Woah there, buddy! Friend! Pal! Not that way, there's, uh, nothing there! You want to see the other floor, right? Let's go, then! There's a lot to see back on the first floor!" His eyes flick frantically between you and the hallway before you.
"Mr. Clipton, Queen told me about the third floor. I know there's more up there, so why not show us that? I'm sure there'll be a lot of rooms for you to tell us about," Noelle offers.
"Uh! Nah, nah, it's like... an attttttic?... You don't want to go up there, it's all dust and Maice and other... uh, nasty stuff. You Lightners wouldn't like it! Not one bit!" He yammers on about allergies or something like it, but you're not paying attention. He's definitely lying, and that's all that matters to you.
If Clipton's trying so hard to convince you not to go this direction, then it's definitely the right way to go.
You walk around the ad wall and continue down the hallway.
"HEY! H-hold on one second!!" Clipton jogs to catch up to you. He grabs you by the shoulder. "Actually! Now that I think about it! This room right here, it's very, VERY important to the tour! Why don't we stop by?" He pushes you towards the nearest door.
As the yellow Addison opens it, a Queen-shaped vase on wheels rolls out with urgency. A Swatchling shoves past all three of you, not bothering to stop for chirped apologies as they chase after the pottery.
Another pot races towards you. Clipton slams the door shut before it can escape.
"...It, uh, isn't that important, on second thought," Clipton stammers with a nervous smile.
There's one door left in the hallway. You can just barely make out a sign next to it that marks out the floors it leads to- in other words, it's definitely another teacup elevator.
"Hey, Noelle, we don't really need him anymore, do we? We can just figure out the third floor on our own, now that we've found the elevator." You're exaggerating- you could definitely use Clipton's guidance, whether it's direct or not, but he doesn't need to know that.
Noelle doesn't seem to catch on, opening her mouth curiously like she's going to talk you out of it, but Clipton beats her to the punch.
"No! You need me! I'm useful! I'll guide you, I will! Yeesh, you really know whatcha want, huh? Payt said so, but I didn't believe 'im, heheh," he mutters mostly to himself.
You squint at him.
"Does Payton say a lot about me?"
He looks like a deer caught in headlights. His eye twitches, and his smile flickers, but it's all back in place in a moment.
