Noelle finally takes a seat across from you, food ordered.
"Did you get what you need? Do you have any idea where we're going?"
You slide the drawing over to her, hesitant but triumphant all the same.
"Take a look at this! I'm not sure exactly what it means, but if I had to take a guess, I'm pretty sure it has something to do with the acid pools deeper in the mansion. What do you think?"
Noelle nods in agreement as she looks over the page.
"Yeah, that makes sense. And... These are houses, right?" She taps the scribbled red shapes with an intense expression.
"I'm pretty sure, yes."
"Oh! Then I know exactly where this is!" She beams, blonde hair shifting as she sits up.
She slumps slightly, though, expression scrunching up. "Well, at least, I think so... Now that I think about it more, I'm not so sure... B-but! You're right about the acid! Queen told me once about a housing project she had done. It was supposed to be a vacation spot, but I guess people didn't like it because of the acid? Or something like that..."
A Swatchling approaches, a plate of treats in one hand and a pitcher in the other. Two glasses are held between the remaining feathers of their pitcher hand.
They place the baked goods in the center of the table. The glasses are quick to follow, and they fill each up with precision and grace. With a gracious bow, they slip off to attend another table.
Pausing the discussion for the time being, you look through your options.
"What did you end up getting?"
Noelle picks out a ball-shaped treat. It's mostly clear, with an ice-like sheen.
"I wasn't sure what you liked, so I got a bunch of things. There are cookies, pastries, and some other things? I'm not really sure what they are, but I thought maybe we could try them...?" She gently shakes the ball she's holding. It jiggles in her hand.
She takes a bite of the strange jelly. Unsurprisingly, it squelches in between her teeth.
"...Tastes like water," she adds after swallowing.
You reach for the first thing to catch your eye. While plenty of the things you see are appealing, the one that stands out most is a dark slice of cake.
It's already plated, so all you have to do is slide it closer. A small fork is stabbed into the top at an angle.
As you cut into the cake with that delicate fork, the dark icing and cake both split away to reveal a vibrant orange jam in the middle. You take a bite of cake and jam, letting the flavors of chocolate and oranges melt in your mouth.
"Ooh, that looks good," Noelle comments idly. Having finished her jelly, she's on to a chocolate cookie. The mint leaf topping it hints at the flavors inside. Somehow it doesn't surprise you that Noelle is a fan of mint.
"You made good choices," you hum through your cake.
You eat in comfortable silence, listening to the ambient chatter of the room. While there's a constant flow of motion through the café, it's all casual and warm, like a fireplace in winter. No matter how hard you try to resist it, your inhibitions melt away. You feel safe here.
Finishing as many sweets as you can, you and Noelle meet each other's eyes, refreshed and ready to continue.
"So. Housing project?" You remind her, returning to the conversation of before.
"Yeah! I'm not sure exactly where it is, but I know it's around somewhere!"
"If I remember correctly, the Addisons worked on that project. I think... of all them, Clipton is probably our best bet. If we can find him, we can find Spamton."
