In tentative agreement, you and Spamton leave the shop. Virovirokun tucks away a tablet, with which they must have reached out to their contact in the mansion.
"Let's go," they say, turning to float away into the dark. You follow, Spamton at your side. Once again, you're led through the maze of alleyways.
The closer you get to the city and its lights, the more the virus Darkner sweats. They try to remain in shadow, silently urging you to do the same.
You don't like feeling like a criminal. To be fair, though, it'd probably be best for you to lay low even if you weren't about to pull off a heist, because of that stunt you pulled in the Cyber Grill.
You can feel the shame rising, but you shove it down.
Before you know it, Virovirokun stops at the corner of an alley. They turn to you and Spamton, face in shadow.
"We're here."
A figure rounds the corner. Spamton's instantly on guard, but Virovirokun stops him with a gesture of their spear.
"This guy's your in. Now..." They back off, giving a twisted smile.
"Whatever you're about to do, I hope it's worth it."
Virovirokun floats off without another word.
You and Spamton look to their contact, who steps into the neon lights of an advertisement. He's a Darkner with the head of a cursor and dramatic sunglasses over top. He's dressed in a shady black longcoat, his hands tucked into his pockets.
"Psst... I'm the Hacker. You wanted a backdoor, right?"
You share a glance with your salesman partner. He gives the Hacker, as he called himself, a suspicious look.
"Why [[F1]] us?"
"I owed my buddy a favor," the Darkner says with a shrug.
"...[[PASSWORD CONFIRMATION]]. We need a door."
"Cool. Follow me." He checks if anyone's following. Once he's satisfied, he starts to walk.
Once again, you find yourself following a stranger.
As you walk, the texture of the walls around you change. They feel... clean. Elegant, maybe, if brick could ever be called that. Through this, you can tell that you're on the outskirts of Queen's mansion.
Spamton's been awfully quiet on this walk. You're not sure how to feel about it. Usually he's so energetic, or chatty, or anything, really... not... whatever this is. A solemn march to an unpleasant death, maybe?
Hopefully not, but there haven't been any guarantees so far.
The Hacker suddenly starts to examine the wall, a hand on his chin. Through those dark glasses, it's difficult to tell what he's thinking, but his thoughts are illuminated when he smiles grimly and flips a hidden switch.
Brick pulls away to reveal a hidden door. It's wooden- unusual, for this world, but what's more unusual is the pitch black inside, and the flames alongside. The Hacker looks on proudly. His obscured eyes turn to meet yours as he steps back, shoving his hands back in his pockets.
"This is your stop. It should take you inside without setting off Queen's sensors. Now, I've got Minecrap to play. Don't tell anyone that I was here."
"Sure thing. Thank you," you say.
He nods and walks off.
You and Spamton lock eyes, finally alone. Sweat drips down his face, pooling at the peaks of his rosy cheeks.
