You stumble as you walk through the quiet city. Nausea has your stomach trembling, and that trembling only spreads. Your legs quiver, your hands shake... When you try to focus on where you're going, dizziness sweeps through you.

Your head spins, and you're forced to stop for a moment, leaning on the wall you've been following. In an instant, you're doubled over, dry-heaving. You've already vomited up the contents of your stomach, so all you're left with is the taste of stomach acid and a serious case of dry-mouth.

God, you're dizzy. It's hard to focus your eyes. The foul taste in your mouth definitely isn't helping you center yourself.

All you can think about is the Hacker's blood. The splatter on the wall. The stained pages. The color leaking out of his electronic flesh... Somewhere in the space between electronics and meat, the fantasy of the Cyber World fades away.

You remember a relative's funeral. Or maybe it was a family friend? You were young, and you didn't really understand. But you remember the dust they spread.

It didn't feel real. There was no body, nothing to say that they were really gone... But of course, you never saw them again.

Not that it meant anything to you then. You mirrored the sadness you saw in your family, but the ache was distant.

Not like this. Not like seeing flesh rent apart. Not like seeing someone turned from a person to an object. A corpse. A noun more than a concept. Blood and meat and wires.

Maybe he wasn't a friend, but you knew him. You wish you could spread his dust. You wish you had any way to free his body.

But apparently Darkner bodies don't turn to dust. So all you have left is the husk he left behind.

The shell he was taken from.

You don't understand how anyone could do this to another person. Especially someone like the Hacker! He may have been a bit standoffish, but he was kind, too... There aren't many people you've met who haven't been sweethearts when you get to know them. Even Queen had her good moments, before she gave up on you. The only people who have seemed truly out of their minds are Payton and Zinton.

But it doesn't matter how well you could know them. They're both fucked up people, and you don't want to know them. Payton hurt Spamton. Zinton, on the other hand...

Berdly's a child, and from the impression you got, an attention-seeker at that. It would have been easy for Zinton to puppet him, to lead him towards... What is this? What do you even call it?

It's just so quiet.

...Even quieter than before.

But... you can hear footsteps.

And the cold wind hissing through the alley...

"Oh! Another enemy! Zinton, let's get some more EXP!"

"..."

You reel as your heart is tugged from your chest. Suddenly, the adrenaline of battle is shooting through you, and you're forced to face your vertigo as you see them-

Berdly and Zinton. They're here. They're still out on the streets, they're-!

...They're different. You don't know what happened between them, but the dynamic has... shifted. Before, Zinton was slimy as per usual, praising and urging, controlling and leading. He pushed you away from them. Berdly was uncomfortable, wasn't he? Maybe a little misguided, but still...!

-But now, Zinton looks miserable. Despite his bright pink coloring, he looks positively gaunt. He looks like he's starving.

And Berdly is brighter than ever. But not just his confident smile, it's also a literal brightness- It's like he's gone neon, in a strange way? He's sharper, somehow. Slicker, happier, more energetic... And his armor's different. He's dressed in pointier, more colorful armor, and...
