House Call

Holy shit.

'Holy shit, holy shit, holy shit' has been the only thought to cross your mind for the past hour as you've paced back and forth, waiting for Spamton to wake up, or snap out of it, or whatever will get him to stop his dead muppet cosplay. You've tried some things, and you've considered trying a lot more, but... Well, your connection to him is as strong as ever. You know he's alive, and that he's some form of okay, but all the same, your worry is overwhelming and his silence is all-consuming.

Weighing even heavier is the fact that you don't have a fucking clue what '94 left' means. Best you've come up with is days, but what happens at the end of it? Maybe that's when Queen finally puts her plans into motion? But that doesn't make sense- How would Spamton ever get that information?

The thought loops on itself over and over again until you're practically dizzy trying to trace it.

Maybe he's sick?

Sick people say weird things sometimes. Sick Darkners... probably glitch out, right? Maybe Spamton's just... been sick for... as long as you've known him...

It's a weak possiblity- and incredibly concerning if true- but it at least gives you something to focus on.

If Spamton's sick, what could you even do about it? You don't know much of anything about Darkner healthcare. Maybe you just didn't notice it, but it's not like you've seen a hospital in the city- And even if you had, would they even take care of him? Neither of you have any money. On top of that, Spamton is- if everyone seeming to know him is any clue- some kind of well-known criminal, so you're definitely not getting any favors.

Maybe it's an Addison thing? But then, who could you possibly ask? Payton and Zinton are both off the table. You don't want them near Spamton, and even if you could trust them, they're both assholes. Clipton is also an asshole, but he did help you, so maaaaybe he'd be decent?

The only Addison who seemed genuinely alright was Newton. You never got a chance to really interact with him one-on-one, and he was quieter than the others, so it's not like you got to see for sure... But it's not like you have any better ideas. While you hate taking a gamble when Spamton's out of commission, you can't stand just sitting around being useless.

Newton it is.

You take a moment to pet Spamton's hair. He's limp under your touch, little more than an empty doll. Fear gnaws at your gut. Any doubts that you had about leaving him alone are eased knowing that you're going to get him help.

"I'll be back soon," you whisper, knowing that he probably can't hear you. All the same, you press a kiss to his forehead before walking out the door.

Your visit to the Color Café was surprisingly uneventful. You were expecting another tense talk with Swatch, but it never came. The place was hopping with activity, customers coming and going constantly, which probably explained the ordinary Swatchling manning the front desk.

You asked for them to call Newton to your room. They nodded and waved you off. After confirming that they actually did make the call, you hurried back to your room and to Spamton.

At first, you expected a near-instant appearance, like what had happened with Clipton.

...But almost thirty minutes have passed and nothing has happened.

You're just starting to wonder if maybe Newton declined when you finally hear a knock at the door.

You're on your feet in a flash, opening the door just as the Addison at your door is mid-knock.
