I walked inside the house and paused at the threshold, holding my breath. It was beautiful. There was an electric fireplace in the lounge area, with a wide flatscreen TV mounted above it. I took in the large round couches and walked deeper inside, surprised at how...gentle and inviting the cabin was, when the owners were dark and twisted. I ran my fingertips over the soft cushions of the couch, twisting my head to peer around.

Black floor-to-ceiling windows were along the walls, giving me a beautiful view of the trees outside. The floor was shiny with tarnished wood that reflected off the bright light hanging on the ceiling, and there was an open patio straight ahead towards the back. Doors opened and closed in the background, and I heard Dove and Jersey talking talking somewhere near.

I turned around to see them huddled near the front door with another girl I didn't recognize, who was rubbing her hand over the swell of her perfectly round belly, looking all but exhausted as she spoke with a small smile on her face. Her chocolate brown eyes were illuminated with a type of innocence you wouldn't regularly find in our world, but I was familiar with the hint of chaos in her gaze.

I had a feeling she must've been Dylan, Spyder's woman. With dark brown skin and half-moon cheekbones with puffy, pouting lips, she was beautiful.

When her eyes met mine, she paused and slowly ran her gaze down my body, then back up to my face. Not in a bitchy, judgemental way, but curiously. Satisfied, she smirked at me.

My lips stretched into a semi-grin before I turned and started walking towards the dark wooden stairs. I made my way up until I hit a long hallway with multiple doors that most likely led to the bedrooms. I walked down the rug that spilled out down the hallway with slow, calculated steps. One of the doors were cracked open, and I peeked inside, only to see Ronan inside.

My chest constricted. I pushed the door open at the same time that I knocked, inviting myself in. Ronan turned his head over his shoulder and glanced at me before shaking his head and turning back around. He was sitting on the edge of the bed with his head bowed between his shoulders. "I don't want to talk right now, Sam." He said hoarsely, not looking at me.

I swallowed and Yeah you do you do what I say shut the door softly behind me, walking up to the bed and taking a seat beside him. I didn't say a word. Sometimes words aren't enough, and I didn't want to fill his head with words he already knew. There wasn't anything I could say to make him feel better, so I just held my breath.

I gazed out the window and watched as a bird passed by, a cardinal, also known as the redbird. I once read somewhere that they were a message from a departed loved one. They generally appear when you need or miss them the most. I glanced at Ronan out of the corner of my eye, feeling as if his pain were my own.

After about six minutes of us sitting in complete silence, I kicked off my chucks and climbed onto the bed, tucking my legs underneath my ass as I got comfortable. "I remember once, when I was ten, I was attacked by a crow." I said suddenly, cringing at the memory when Ronan burst out laughing, his shoulders shaking as he did so. "This is serious!" I laughed.
