"I think you should marry her."

That was the first full sentence out of Ronan's mouth since I'd gotten here, and as soon as he said it, I wanted him to swallow the words whole and devour them until they were completely forgotten.

My head started to pound, and I didn't tear my eyes away from the bookshelf in Nico's office when I said, "Explain." The spine of one of the biggest books on the shelf beamed at me, causing the throbbing in my head to intensify.

"You're worried about her." That came from Nico, who was sitting on the couch across from me. His arm was slung over back of the couch, and when my eyes finally met his, the slightest bit of emotion bled from his stoic expression. "You don't want a repeat with the Russians—"

"No shit." I bit out.

"Listen," Eli stressed the word. "I don't want anything to happen to her either, dawg." He tightened his fingers around the silver flask in his hands. "They're going to look into her. Like closely. Alexei bought her. He kidnapped her, she murdered him, they murdered Amo. It may be quiet now, but you know it's not safe. And I'm not saying she isn't safe with you, I'm just...I don't think they understand where Samantha stands when it comes to us all." This was the first time since we buried Amo that Eli has been serious, so serious that it was alarming.

He's been brushing everything off to avoid having to deal with it, but I had a strong fucking feeling he'd break soon. I just didn't think Sam would be the reason.

I looked around the room, my eyes bouncing around the guys. Levi, Will, Hunter, and Wolfe were quiet. "What he's trying to say is...if you marry her, they'll be even more hesitant to start some shit. Nobody would purposely go into wonderland and piss all over the mad fucking hatter's territory." Pax cleared his throat, shifting his weight from one hip to the other.

"That doesn't even make any sense, dumbass." Levi murmured.

"It does make sense. Yves doesn't want shit unless he starts it. He's told us many times he doesn't want problems with you." Nico scooted up, readjusting himself.

"We killed his second in command. I set him on fire and let my girl shoot him in the face. Yves going to retaliate in some way because if he doesn't, he's gonna look like a pussy to everyone else." I spoke calmly, working my knuckles. I wouldn't be able to fucking live with myself if something happened to Sam, especially when I knew I could've done something to stop it.

"But his target won't be on Sam. We don't know what the fuck he's going to do, but he's not stupid enough to come after the wife of a Capo. He's too much of a family man for that shit." Ronan closed his eyes and inhaled the blunt he was smoking on, his jaw locked in his place.

"What are you worried about? You have our permission." Eli's mask slipped back into place as quick as it left, a grin causing his lips to curl.

"I don't need your fucking permission to do shit." And I didn't. I knew that what they were spewing out was nothing but the truth, that if Sam had Vitali attached to her name, she'd be fucking untouchable, more than she already was. I just couldn't fathom the marriage part.
