To my dismay, I had agreed to go on a date with Dave. He said he would pick me up around 7 PM. I insisted on meeting him there but he said he wanted to pick me up. I was just assuming it was an act of chivalry, but when he walked inside my house I thought otherwise.
"You look wonderful, Y/N." Dave smirked as he kissed my hand. Unsure of what to do, I awkwardly chuckled as I was not used to the affection from someone besides William.
Thankfully, Elizabeth came down and interrupted the moment. I wasn't really ready for someone to meet his kids yet but I couldn't really take it back now.
"Oh! Is this Mr. Miller, mom?" Elizabeth grinned at me. Dave raised a brow but still held a smug grin. I thought I had explained I technically adopted children, but Dave was still rather surprised.
"Yes it is, Lizzy. Do you want to get Mike and Chris down here to meet him?" Elizabeth simply nodded her head as she ran off to fetch the boys.
"I think it's great you took them in, darling." Dave commented warmly. A sudden blush came across my cheeks, but I quickly put a stop to it. I can't let myself fall again. I'm supposed to wait for him.
"They're practically my own." I chuckled as the three soon appeared again. Dave smiled the whole time as each of them introduced each other.
All was going well for the most part. Michael was a little cold at first but eventually warmed up to Dave. Time was passing by and I knew we had to leave for our date soon, but we didn't leave without Michael making a questionable comment.
"Y'know, you look alike like my dad." Michael smirked carelessly. Dave stiffened as I assumed it was quite awkward for him to be compared to a father figure. I quickly dismissed the thought, even if it was very true.
"I agree. But we should probably get going now. Michael, will you be good with Liz and Chris?" I glanced back over at the 3 Afton's.
"Pfft, I'm grown up. I got it, mom." Michael rolled his eyes. Dave chuckled as he grabbed my hand and held the door open for me. I waved by to the children as they watched us leave.
Surprisingly, they were all pretty accepting of Dave. I would've thought this would trigger them to think of their father but I guess they recovered pretty quickly. As Dave held the door open for me, I couldn't help but think about what Michael said.
He did look a lot like William.
But it couldn't possible be true. Why would he change his identity? Why would he hide
himself from us? The only thing it would explain was Dave's interest in William. But everything else didn't add up.As I was lost in thought, I failed to notice Dave's worried expression on his face as he glanced over at me in the car.
"Is everything okay, love?"
"What? Yeah, just thinking..." I sighed, "So, where are we going for dinner?"
"You'll see when we get there."
~
The date was actually pretty nice. It was fancy and the service was wonderful. Still, it felt empty without William there, and although there was definitely a spark with Dave, it couldn't replace's William's.
"So, how long have you and Mr. Emily known each other?"
"Years. He knew my dad before he...died. But I didn't reconnect with him until about 6 months ago." It was strange to actually open up to someone. I don't recall even telling William about my fathers death, but that's just because it never came up. Still, I wasn't used to all the personal questions.
"Oh, sorry for your loss. How has Mr. Emily been?" I raised a brow at this. But didn't question anything.
"He keeps to himself a lot. I just don't think he's used to working without his best friend." I sighed. That was probably going to give Henry permanent damage. Especially after he learned the truth of his daughters death.
"I can understand why. I would be upset too." Dave sighed. It felt like Dave was pained by this too. But there was no reason for him to be, unless he was more involved than I thought.
Come to think of it, I barely knew anything about him. He just showed up and started flirting with me. Why did I even agree to this anyway? He was a stranger! I even told him my secrets! Maybe, I just saw a bit of William in him. Not just on the outside either.
"Did you know William Afton?" I asked suddenly. Dave jolted up from the menu as he gazed at me.
"Of him. I had never met him." That was understandable, but I still couldn't shake this feeling that Dave was hiding something. He definitely was a secretive guy.
"Y'know, I barely know anything about you. Don't you think that's a little unfair?" I chuckled, trying to hide my suspicion. Dave smirked as he shook his head.
"I guess that's true. What would you like to know, dear?" Dave chuckled.
"Okay, do you have any family here?"
"As a matter of a fact, I do." Shivers went down my spine for some reason. It was like every question he answered just raised more questions! It was frustrating!
"Like...a sister? Brother? Children? What?" I pried.
"Let's just say, I have a whole family."
More shivers.
"Care to be more specific?" I crossed my arms.
"Well, you'll just have to go on another date with me to find out."
