They fought five years ago,
Once lovers, now enemies,
Separated by a vast battlefield,
Swords crossing, arrows flying,
No one side left unscathed,
They lit cannons with their words,
Burned cities with their actions,
But now, for the first time, talk of compromise
Sweeps through the streets:
Can peace be reached?
Should I allow myself to hope?
I fear the inevitable war between the
Two empires that I both love.
Can I allow myself to believe?
What will I do if I look into the sky
And find not a dove, but ashes
Of everything in the aftermath?
