I'm smiling because you broke me,
Laughing at the dust and debris
That you left in the wake.
I dance around what we used to be,
Thankful that it was you who taught me,
Everything that wasn't meant,
All the things I didn't need.
I'm crying because it's beautiful,
This courage that you gave me,
How just one phrase spoken out loud,
Can make me believe in myself,
Why is it that these tears won't stop,
Cold rivers flowing down my face,
When warmth beats from my heart.
I rather cry genuine feelings,
And wail sincerely from my soul,
Than to smile with my lips
Without it ever reaching my eyes.
Let's embrace what is real
And leave behind false expressions.
