When we meet our final conclusion,

I hope that you'll be able to look back

And remember those moments that although

Insignificant in the scheme of the universe,

Seemed to shine like stars in the vast sky.

I hope you remember that day we

Lost ourselves in the garden,

Listening to the songs of the bamboo and

Watching the ducks swim by in the

Vast blueness of the man-made lake,

I hope you remember when we sat

Enveloped by the smell of paints and pots

As you coated your bird in green and

I smeared the sky across my own canvas,

I hope you remember that awful day on the beach,

When neither of us knew what to say

And you were trying so hard

To keep the conversation going,

How we lost our way on the streets

Because the times changed the stores faster

Than we could keep up with them,

I also hope you remember the turn of a new year,

When we walked together down that path,

A bittersweet feeling tinting the air as

You told me of your adventures and I listened

Leaving you with a gift and wondering why

This felt like the end, a beautiful, sweet end,

That this was your year, but it wouldn't be mine.

The time wasn't right for us, I know,

I don't think it meant nothing at all, and they

Tell me that I'm an idiot, but I do believe

What we had was genuine, you were genuine

So please, if you ever pause and think

And let your mind wander back to us,

I hope the memories of us are

As a gentle, passing breeze,

Whispering against your skin like

A soft touch of nostalgia and a

Tug to the heart, mixed into

A feeling of happiness and familiarity for

What was not meant to be.
