Maybe you want a strong soldier,
Who can stand tall and protect you,
A mature face with a steady arm,
A steady knight who serves his king,
And understands when to bow to his elders.
But that is what you want, who you want
Someone strong who can carry out your will,
Without hesitation, to his last breath—
But for me, please understand,
Our goals are shared but our paths differ,
I've always walked this path alone,
My will carried by my flimsy arms,
Don't get me wrong—this is my burden to bear—
And bear it I will, with every ounce of my strength,
I don't want someone to take away
The tears and frustration poured into these
Small little dreams of mine,
If I could just have a friend who could
Understand what it's like to walk alone,
We could walk together, never
Trying to take over the other's will,
But instead supporting one another
Through presence alone.
No swords nor shields nor gifts nor words of fancy
Can speak to me as much as
A knowing brush on the shoulder
Believing in me with no hesitation.
