Y/N's POV:
Unsurprisingly, the short conversation with Laura has not left me in a very good state. She did say that she still wanted to be my friend, which I find ironic because - has she ever been my friend in the first place? And it also doesn't change what happened. So for now, I allow myself to indulge in all the negative feelings that are surfacing all too readily.
The next day is the same. I wake up early but refuse to get up. Someone - probably Sophia - rings my doorbell a couple of times but I don't respond. Nobody tries the doorbell in the afternoon but my phone rings a few times. After the fifth, I turn it off.
The events repeat themselves again the following day. Even the weather stays the same; something between grey sunshine and light rain. But on Thursday, Sophia won't go away.
If I hadn't already been awake for at least an hour, I would be by now. The doorbell keeps ringing incessantly. And that is the only - really, the only - reason why I eventually get up and throw open that goddamn door.
Sophia takes a step back when she sees the angry look on my face, and wow - this has got to be a first. Usually, it's the other way around, and Sophia is the one who's making me back off. I can't say I'm mad about the turn of events.
But just like I know her, Sophia recovers quickly and tries to gain the upper hand in this conversation. But I'd say that's a bit hard when she takes on the position of the supplicant.
"You're not going to school?", Sophia asks, her voice calm. She knows better than to strike up useless small talk.
"Obviously not." My voice is calm too but it is much, much colder than Sophia's.
I've thought this situation through a million times during the last few days, and if we were to leave Laura out of the equation, I'd actually say that I don't have a right to be mad at Sophia. Me leaving this place was included in the deal, after all. So I couldn't blame Sophia for wanting to nudge me in that direction when she's already made her intentions clear anyway. Save that she made Laura befriend me so that I'd have no one at all. No one who truly stands behind me.
Sophia nods and takes another step back. I'm ready to shut the door and go back to bed but apparently, she's not done yet. But in retrospect, I wish she would've just left it at that because what she mutters is just so unlike her that it confuses me to no end.
"Please do. I will leave you alone. But please do come back."
Well, that's another first. She sounded genuinely concerned and willing to just leave me in peace. I don't know how to respond, so I don't. Instead, I do what I do best these days and shut the door to retreat. And brood, of course.
