As Stefan and I aligned with the other dancers he asked me: "Why didn't you just leave me at the bar?"

"It was depressing watching you in your broody moody mode" I replied as we began to dance, "and I thought dancing could be a fun distraction from the Salvatore X Doppelganger love triangle"

Stefan let out a breathy chuckle before he said, "You know, you remind me of someone I used to know, my best friend"

I feigned shock before saying, "Stefan Salvatore had a friend!" He chuckled at my expression. "Well, tell me about her, was she cool?"

"Very, but your cooler" I smiled at the last part of his sentence before he continued, "She could always get me out of a slump, you know? Lift my spirits. She also loved dancing" I laughed at Stefan's tone regarding her love for dancing.

"Good luck" I said quickly noticing the confusion on Stefan's face as we switched partners, Elena landing in his arms, I ended up in the arm of a brunette.

The same brunette as earlier

Kol

I mentally rolled my eyes at his flirtatious expression. "I believe we got off on the wrong foot earlier" he started, "I'm Kol" he paused momentarily clearly expecting me to respond, "and you are..." He continued.

I contemplated giving him another sassy remark but knowing that Damon and possibly Stefan were listening I decided to play along in order to taunt the brothers. "Lexi, Lexi Carter if you must". Kol smiled at my compliance.

"Beautiful name for a beautiful girl" I stayed quiet not sure how to respond. "You are quite the talented dancer I see".

"Well, I try. Unlike you of course, who lived through when waltzing in a ballroom was a usual practice" He chuckled at my response. "But I suppose your dancing talents must come with old age".

"You wound me, Lexi" just as he finished speaking there was another change in partners except this time I exited the dance floor, deciding it was best to follow up on the reason I actually came to this ball

Esther

After making my way up the stairs I know found myself wandering into different rooms. Just as I was about to turn into another room I found myself walking face first into a wall...

Or better still a wall of abs.

As soon as I felt myself make contact with this mystery person I instantly apologized before making eye contact with them. He was a tall man who had straight dark hair which had clearly been slicked back. His hazel eyes darkened noticeably when we made eye contact with an emotion I couldn't read.

"Sorry, I wasn't looking where I was going" I said. As I went to walk past him I felt a hand wrap around my wrist and pull me backwards. I stumbled lightly over my heels falling yet again into the strangers chest.

I felt his other hand cup my face, his thumb positioned under my jaw, tilting my face up to meet his eyes. In any other situation I would've freaked out but I found a strange feeling of comfort in his presence. "It's you" he said whilst keep direct eye contact with me. My heart fluttered at his words.

HOW MANY HOT GUYS WITH ACCENTS AM I GOING TO RUN INTO TODAY?

Once I was snapped out of my trance I finally processed his words and furrowed my brows not entirely understanding what he meant. My confusion removed him from his trance as he removed his hands and said, "Finn Mikaelson". He then grabbed my hand and placed a kiss on the back of it.

ANOTHER FUCKING MIKA-

"Lexi Carter" I said.

Damn, guys really need to start kissing hands more that shit is hot.

"Um- Finn" I said deciding to stick with the reason I was originally here. His eyes light up at my use of his name.

"Yes, angel" he replied.

"Do you know where your mother is, by any chance?" I noticed him then trying to hide the frown that formed on his face at my question.

"Yes, would you like me to take you to her?" He asked.

"Oh yeah thanks" I said as we began walking, "She just invited me to this whole thing and she said that she wanted to speak with me".

"Ah yes my mother did mention requesting to speak with some of the guests tonight. I didn't quite imagine any of them being as lovely as you though". I was instantly flustered at his words, I hadn't imagined he would be so frank. "My apologises was that too straight forward" he said, concern clear on his face.

"No it really wasn't" I said, a smile breaking out on my face at how cute his reaction was, "I just didn't imagine that the first thing you would do after being in a coffin for 900 years would be flirting".

"So you know about the supernatural?" he said picking up on my coffin reference. I nodded in response. When we stopped outside of one of the many rooms, he turned to me and said, "To be clear the first thing I did after leaving that coffin wasn't flirting with you, it was planning this ball where I then met and flirted with you".

I lowered my head to hide the smile that formed on my face. Just as I did so the door opened, revealing a blonde woman who appeared to be in her mid 50's. She then greeted Finn with a nod before turning to me and saying, "Alexandra, thank you for coming." She then moved to the corner of the doorway so I could enter, "Please, join me."

I tensed at the use of my full name, only my mother ever used it. Finn then leaned in to me and placed a kiss on my cheek, "It was a pleasure meeting you Lexi" he said before walking away without giving me time to respond. A look of realisation crossed of Esther's features, her expression displayed her nervousness before she seemingly brushed it away and turned to me.

"Please, do come in" she said stepping out of the doorway.
