Bruce couldn’t believe his eyes. The monster was alive and on its feet. Layva’s blade was still sticking out of the creature’s skull.
“Damn it!” Layva muttered. “It didn’t go deep enough.” Bruce had no idea what to do next. He was almost completely out of power, and he could tell Layva was spent too. The distortor released a roar of absolute fury! Raising its massive foot it prepared to stomp on both of them. Scythe began attacking its eye again, buying them time to escape. Bruce looked over at Layva again. She was trying to form a sword in her hand but her attempts were simply fading away in a flash of red light.
Even if I put her on my shoulders and run I don’t have enough power left to get us both away from that thing.
The chimera wouldn't buy them much time. He needed to think fast!
He looked around, searching for something to finish this thing off. His eyes landed on the only thing in the clearing. The old water tower. A plan began to form in his head, but he was missing something! He looked up at the nadir, swatting at Scythe like he was an annoying fly, buzzing in its ear.
He saw the sword sticking out of its head. “It didn’t go deep enough, despite how much he hated it, despite how much he had tried to block it out this past week, thoughts of his fight at the zoo. How he was able to take on Didrick.
Bruce grabbed Layva by the shoulders and shook her. “I need you to keep that sword in his head.”
Layav stared down at him in confusion. “What? Wh-”
“I need you to hold it in existence for as long as you can!” He shouted.
Layva nodded. “I take it you have a plan or something?” Bruce looked back up at the crimson saber sticking out of the nadir’s skull.
“I wouldn’t call it a plan, but yeah...something like that.” Letting go of her Bruce began to run back towards the rocks.
“Get out of the way, and keep that sword there!” He shouted back to her. She almost thought he was abandoning her again, but quickly shook off the thought.
The nadir finally got in a solid hit on Scythe, flicking her brave little cat-owl to the ground. Anger filling her very being Layva felt a spark of s.o.l.e. She used it to stop her blade from fading. The kaiju turned his attention towards Layva. With a bellow of wrath it reached for her.
I hope you know what you’re doing, Kopierce.
…
Bruce, with a sufficient head start, turned back to the monster and raised his hand. He fired a blast of his s.o.l.e, too weak to even be called a cannon, into the sky, drawing the creature’s attention.
“Yo ugly! I know you’re still hungry, come get the second helping!”
When I blasted my attack down its throat it stopped everything it was doing to try and attack me. For whatever reason the taste of my sole is more important to it than anything else.
The kaiju, seeing Bruce’s blast, quickly forgot about Layva and charged after him.
Bruce went back to sprinting. For whatever reason his plan hadn’t accounted for what a thirty foot tall giant chasing him might do to his nerve.
He was so close! But it was catching up to him with every step. Despite his best attempt Bruce looked back to see how close it was. His heart stopped when he found the huge nadir… missing.
Bruce frantically looked in every direction for the kaiju, fearing it could attack him from any angle.
This won’t work! Fear was coursing through his veins at the realization. This plan won’t work if I can’t see it!
