Clover peeked back down the stairs. “Is he gone?” She asked Kai.
“Yes. You can come down now.”
“Don’t worry Clove.” Bruce chipped in. “Kai made an even bigger clown out of himself than you did!”
“How was I supposed to know that some mystics were that lame! I’ve only seen cool ones… well, if I’m not including yours.” Kai blurted in his defense. This brought a scoff out of Bruce. “My mystic is way cooler than yours, chump! If you don’t believe it, how bout I let you catch a Kobalt Cannon?”
In a flash of forest green light Kai manifested his gauntlets. “Oh I’ll catch it alright, and throw it right back at you!”This might be perfect! Clover thought while watching the boys argue. “Boys, boys.” She quickly walked down the stairs, wrapping her arms around the young men’s necks. “You both have great mystics, that is only one of the few things that makes you two so impressive.” She batted her eyelashes.
Bruce and Kai exchanged looks before removing her arms. “Yeah just so you know,” Kai looked her up and down. “This probably won’t work on me the way you’re hoping it will.”Bruce arched an eyebrow before making a cross with his fingers and holding it up to her. “And the last time you batted those devil hairs at me I ended up at gunpoint and trapped in Limbotory!”
Clover dropped the pretenses and rolled her eyes. “Can’t you ever let go of the past?”
“It was less than a month ago!”
“Exactly! In the past!”
“Okay, okay.” Kai broke them up. “Clove, what do you want?” With no real choice she explained the situation that she found herself in last night.
“No way!” Bruce proclaimed, refusing later than Clover expected. “I’m not going to a drug den to pretend to get additcied to… mystical cocanine!”
Clover looked over at Kai realizing he was the best when it came to breaking Bruce down.
“What Bruce means,” the boy interpreted, “is that he's afraid that the people at the nightclub have guns.”Bruce crossed his arms over his chest and turned up his nose. “Well I suppose the thought did cross my mind.”
So he killed a kaiju but is afraid of normal gun fire? “Look. I think you’re forgetting that getting shot by a normal gun isn’t always a game over anymore. Besides,” She formed two golden machine guns. “If it comes to firepower I’ve got them… outgunned.”Kai clapped. “Well, that's a pun. I’m in.” He looked at Bruce expectantly.
“Honestly? The wordplay made me wanna do it even less, but you did promise this guy two rich teens not in the Horizon Core.”“So you’ll help?” Clover really was starting to think they wouldn’t, she knew Bruce would be the hardest sell, but everything was working out.
“I don’t think we have a choice.” Bruce sighed. “If I end up at gunpoint I swear the only shots you’ll be taking are at a hospital.”Clover grinned at them. “No promises, but we’ll make a night out of it! Let's come up with a plan.”
“Before you start working on the script,” Clover turned to find Ravel rolling out of the kitchen. “You’ll need props!”Crap. Clover thought
“Hey Ravel. I didn’t know you were listening.” If she reports me to the Core for making a deal with Rattler I could be forced home. Clover had just wanted to help, and now she would have to leave?
“Yes. And I’m in!” Ravel beamed at the blond. “Ahh! This is going to be so fun! We’ll be like secret agents, going under cover.”“I have walkie talkies!” Kai added.
They do realize that I’m taking them to a drug ring right?
