Warnings: uhhhh self-assigned pressure and idk what else
Once again, I am petitioning for Natasha Romanoff to become my mother
Age 16
Y/n sat at her desk with her math textbook open and her notes spread everywhere before her. She had been staring at the same math problem for the last twenty minutes and had made no progress. Y/n had always put the pressure on herself to be an excellent student, wanting to ace every class she took in high school. She knew that it was good to put some pressure on herself to succeed, but the amount of pressure she used would probably be considered unhealthy. Most of her other classes had fairly do-able workloads, but Algebra 2 was the one flaw in that. Math had never been her strong suit.
Sighing, she rubbed her eyes and decided to move on to do work for a different class. She would come back to her math later. She put away her math textbook and notes, replacing it with her Honors English textbook. She had several pages she needed to read and then a two page summary to write.
Hours passed as she worked, pushing her way through her homework for all of her classes. She didn't realize how late it was when all she had left to do was her math work. It was almost 10:30 at night. She was surprised her mother hadn't come barging in to tell her to come eat dinner.
As if on cue, there was a knock at her door.
"Come in." y/n said as she closed her history textbook.
"Hey, honey. You doing alright? I didn't see you at dinner." Natasha asked, slowly entering her daughter's room.
"Uh, yeah I'm good. I was doing homework and lost track of time." y/n replaced her Algebra 2 textbook and reopened it to the assigned page.
"Why don't you come down and get some dinner, then you can finish your work." Natasha suggested, approaching the desk. She studied her daughter's face and saw how tired she was. How long had she been working without taking a break?
"I'd rather not mom. I want to finish this and then I'll come get some food. I know that if I go downstairs, I'll get distracted and I won't want to finish my work." y/n responded, pulling out her notes and glancing at the homework problems.
Natasha hesitated answering. She knew her daughter pushed herself to work hard in school, and she couldn't be more proud of her. But she was also concerned about the amount of pressure y/n put on herself. She never allowed herself to fail.
"Ok, as long as you come down at one point to eat." the red-head watched the focused face of her daughter, then turned to leave, closing the bedroom door behind her.
Y/n sighed as she forced her way through the material. To be honest, she had no idea how to do the math presented before her. The textbook was extremely unhelpful and her teacher's lecture from that day only made her more confused. After another hour and a half, she finished the last problem, not exactly hopeful that she did the math right. It didn't make her feel any better that she was being tested on the material tomorrow at school.
She knew she could ask either her Uncle Tony or Bruce for help with math, but she hated bothering them. They were always busy working on something that was more important than her high school math homework.
Sighing, she glanced at the clock and saw it was midnight. She still hadn't eaten dinner but she wasn't in the mood to. Instead, she went and brushed her teeth and crawled into bed, almost instantly falling asleep.
It felt like she had only been sleeping for five minutes when her alarm began blaring. She rolled over in bed and picked up her phone, turning off the beeping. Then she just laid there, remembering the algebra test she had to take today. Slowly, her eyes closed as she accidentally fell back asleep.
