Warnings: None, just fluff

I was in the mood for some Kate fluff, so this the what I came up with

also...thank you all for 2K reads! Honestly, I can't believe it. Y'all are amazing!

I watched Kate from where I was perched on her bed. She was sitting at her desk, working on her laptop on something that was apparently important. We had been stuck inside the Avenger's Compound all day, thanks to the constant downpour of rain that had been going on.

While Kate had some work to catch up on, I had nothing to do and just wanted to spend some time with my girlfriend. But I wanted to give her space to do the work she needed to do, so I resorted to reading quietly on her bed while she sat at her desk. Lucky, Kate's dog, was curled up right next to me, napping peacefully. I was just mindlessly petting his furry head, scratching the back of his ears and smoothing out the fur.

Rain began to pound harder on the nearby window. This kind of weather has always been my favorite. I'm not sure why. It's just so beautiful and calming to both look at and hear.

I closed my book and rolled off the bed, wandering over to the bedroom window. Lucky looked up at me, seemingly disappointed at the loss of my pets.

Looking out the window, I watched the rain hit the glass and slide down, leaving streaks of water across the window. The clouds outside were dark, making it look like it was the middle of night. It was around sunset, so the darkness brought on by the thick clouds wasn't too strange.

There was a sudden flash of light, breaking through the darkness, momentarily illuminating the grassy field outside the compound. Then it disappeared like it was never there, immediately followed by booming thunder.

A small yelp escaped me at the sudden loud noise, causing me to flinch and cover my ears. Did I mention that loud noises scare the crap out of me? Yeah, an Avenger is afraid of loud things. It's kind of embarrassing but I can't help it.

Kate jumped slightly and looked up at me, giving me a concerned look. She knew of my hatred for loud noises and was always protective over me for it, especially when we were on missions.

She jumped up, abandoning her work, and wrapped me in a tight hug, placing a hand on my head and guiding it to her chest. I pulled her closer to me, flinching again at another clap of thunder.

"Shhh, it's ok. You're ok." Kate hummed, rubbing the back of my head in an attempt to calm me down. It worked somewhat, the tight hug helping to ground me and make me feel safe.

Lucky jumped off the bed and wandered over to us, standing up on his back legs and placing his front paws on my side, asking for attention.

I giggled at the dog's antics and removed an arm from Kate's waist and began scratching the dog's head. I looked down at the fluffy dog, who was very excited for the pets. Kate smiled at the both of us, smiled at me relaxing. I'm not sure what it was about Kate and Lucky that always made me so happy. They both made me feel safe and I couldn't be more grateful to have Kate in my life.

We had met through the Avengers, well really Clint. I had joined a few years ago, during the whole situation with Ultron and Sokovia. The Avengers had picked me up when they stormed one of the Hydra bases, and I had stuck around ever since. I was only a teenager when I joined, but I never regretted it for a moment.

Kate had joined about two years ago, introduced by Clint. I was kind of awestruck by her at first, just how confident she was in her abilities. Then there was all her sarcasm and humor, plus she was just absolutely beautiful that it was hard not to fall for her. I'm just happy that she fell for me.

Another flash of lightning and a boom of thunder brought me out of my memories. I snapped my eyes shut and my body tensed. Kate tightened her grip around me.

"It's ok. It's just thunder. It's probably Thor messing around, making sure we're safe." Kate whispered to me, running a soft hand through my hair. "Why don't we do something? Work's boring anyways."

I pulled away slightly and looked up at Kate. She was slightly taller than me, but only by about two or three inches.

"Can we watch a movie?" I asked, smiling up at my girlfriend, who just looked like she wanted to do something to help.

Kate smiled and nodded, unwrapping herself from around my body and jumping into bed. Lucky, excited at his human's sudden movement, ran to the bed and jumped on top of her. Kate erupted in laughter as the dog began licking her face. I began to ruffle the dog's fur, trying to save Kate, which just turned him to me, causing him to start licking my face.

More thunder sounded outside. I tensed up briefly, but immediately became distracted by the fluffy animal directly in my face.

Kate tackled Lucky, bringing him down to the bed and into a cuddle. The dog tried to lick her face again, but just accepted the snuggle and began to calm down.

I just smiled at the two of them, and crawled into bed, lifting Lucky up slightly so that I could cuddle up into Kate's side with the dog in my lap.

Thunder boomed again, and Kate instinctively wrapped a protective arm around me, trying to remind me that I'm safe with her.

"Thunderstorms suck." I mumble, placing my head in the crook of her neck.

"They do, but at least there's a dog." Kate giggled, petting Lucky, who was already slowly falling asleep in my lap. She picked up the remote of the bedroom TV, and began scrolling through the movies, looking for something for the both of us to watch.

I smiled at the comment, happy with my current situation in life, grateful for Kate and her protective nature over me. Plus, there's a dog.

Rain was my favorite kind of weather, but thunderstorms were the worst.
