It was now the next day after Dale had died and you didn't want anyone helping you to bury him. You woke up before anyone else did and this time you kept your hearing aids on but as soon as you went and got the shovel Daryl was wide awake in some sort of panic.
You went up to him grabbing a hold of his arm. He jolted at the sudden touch till he saw you and hugged you tight.
"The hell ya doin' up so early. Don' do that again." "O-okay" you said with a raspy voice from last night. You couldn't look Daryl in the eyes because you were trying not to cry again.
Dale was the only one who was fluent in sign language and the only person who used it to talk to you, nobody else took the time to learn sign to talk to you at all, and he was the father you wished you had when you were younger. He listened to you whenever you were struggling around camp, watched over you, taught you how to fish, and he took the time to help you more on your speech, but he was gone now.
Daryl lifted up your head by your chin and wiped the tears falling down your face. He gave a small kiss to your forehead, grabbed your hand and walked to where the other graves were burried.
After awhile you and Daryl finished digging Dale's grave and went back to the house to get changed. You put on one of Dale's button up shirts, same black pants, and black boots. Everyone was now standing around the graves while Rick had a few words to say.
"Dale could-- could get under your skin. He sure got under mine, because he wasn't afraid to say exactly what he thought, how he felt. That kind of honesty is rare and brave."
"Whenever I'd make a decision, I'd look at Dale. He'd be looking back at me with that look he had. We've all seen it one time or another. I couldn't always read him, but he could read us. He saw people for who they were. He knew things about us-- The truth... Who we really are. In the end, he was talking about losing our humanity."
"He said this group was broken. The best way to honor him is to unbreak it. Set aside our differences and pull together, st feeling sorry for ourselves and take control of our lives... Our safety... ...our future. We're not broken. We're gonna prove him wrong. From now on... We're gonna do it his way. That is how we honor Dale."
After the funeral you all went back to the camp and started to move into Hershals house. While you were helping move stuff you found a peculiar stick but not just any stick, it was a pregnancy test. Lori came up to you and saw the test in your hands. "Hey y- oh guess we haven't told you yet huh."
You shook your head no and gave a small smile. She smiles back and you both went back to getting all the stuff situated in the house.
"It'll be tight, 14 people in one house."
"Don't worry about that. With the swamp hardening, the creek drying up..." Hershal stated then Maggie added "With 50 head of cattle on the property, we might as well be ringing a damn dinner bell."
"She's right. We should've moved you in a while ago."
"All right, let's move the vehicles near each of the doors facing out toward the road. Just leave it there. We'll build a lookout in the windmill, another in the barn loft. That should give us sightlines both sides of the property. T-Dog, you take the perimeter around the house. Keep track of everyone coming and going."
While Rick was talking to T-Dog you went over to your tent to take all your things out, which you didn't have much, but finally able to lift heavy things since Hershal gave you the all clear. Daryl was still a little worried about you since it has been about 4 days since Dale's death and you haven't been yourslef lately. He wanted to give you space but he knew better to leave you alone because the mind can be a dark and twisted place to be in, and how the world is now it's more dangerous.
