Chap. 11 ~ Let's Talk

"Welcome to the Yggdrasil Forest," Zoey proudly exclaims.

"Wow. It's beautiful." Katelyn states.

"Amazing. The forest was beautiful, but this!" Aphmau stares in awe at the forest around us, then down at Alina, who's run in front of her, "Isn't it?"

Alina yawns.

"Tired little ones?" Zoey questions.

"It is about nap time!" Aphmau states.

"Follow me. I'll lead you to a safe place in the village for a nap.

Zoey, Liochant, Alina and Lilith go ahead.

"Liochant," I call before he's gone completely.

"Yes ma'am?" Liochant turns.

"Anna," Katelyn's stern voices looms over me.

I look at her, before turning back Liochant. "Can you take Erin for me? She's fallen asleep in my arms," I explain.

"Of course." He stammers in reply, seemingly stunned that I asked him of all people. He comes over and carefully scoops her up, before following Zoey and the other girls.

"Should one of us follow?" Garroth asks.

"Garrot-" I begin, but get cut off.

"They are fine with Liochant!" Katelyn replies.

"Right... Sorry, it's just... It's just we really should be getting to the heart of darkness, right?"

"Yes but I understand Zoey's concern with getting the girls to another place before we head to hers'," Aphmau explains.

"Causing panic in the little ones presence is not good for their health," Katelyn adds.

"Wow... I never thought about it that way. I guess travelling with children has got to be tough."

"It is," Aphmau replies, "We try to keep our stress down around them. Children pick up on these things, you know."

"Especially our girls..." I mutter, glancing at Garroth, noticing he's still a little worried.

A voice in the distance begins screaming for help, causing a crowd to form.

"Help! Help! Brother! Sisters! It's an emergency!"

Levin sighs, "So much for keeping the stress down."

"What's going on?" Garroth asks.

We turn our attention to the centre, where an elf climbs atop the old well and starts explaining what's happening. "My Elvin brothers and sisters... One of our kind has been taken from the forest.

There is an audible gasp from the crowd that has formed.

"The forest is not acting out of spite for anything we have done. It is acting out of spite for the outsiders we have allowed into it," the brown-haired elf continues.

"What the?" Katelyn mutters.

"Are they talking about us?" Aphmau asks.

"It is because we have allowed one to come back that was once banished. We should give her to the forest instead!" The elf suggests.

"STOP!" Zoey yells, "It is not because of the outsiders. The Elder has allowed them to come here himself."

"Here she is! The cause of all our hardship!" The Elf continues, ignoring Zoey's explanation.

"Gabriel! You aren't even listening."

The crowd of people begins yelling angrily,
"Toss her out!" 
"We don't want you here!"
"You were banished once and you should have stayed banished!"
