We decided to walk through the Sacred Forest in two groups. Aphmau, Garroth, Alina, and Lilith left first, and I followed behind by about and hour, with Erin. We thought it'd be safer to travel in smaller groups.
By the time I had arrived with Erin, Aphmau was no where in sight.
Hyria met me outside, and Erin ran up to her screaming "grandma!" They pulled one another in for a hug.
"Hyria..." I smile, walking up to her.
"Hello dearie." Hyria smiles back, and hugs me.
"It's good to see you."
"You as well. Although, I'm sure you'll want to see someone else over me."
"She's still here then?" I ask.
"Mhm. She's been waiting for you." Hyria explains, "In the dinning room. I'll keep an eye on this one out here. Should I be expecting anyone else?"
"You've sensed her presence already, I assume. Surprisingly, I left an hour later than her." I laugh.
"Alright. Now go. You've both waited long enough to see one another. It's time." Hyria smiles.
I smile brightly, breathing in and out, mentally preparing myself to see her.
As I walk up to Hyria's door, I start to panic. My breath becomes heavy, and heart begins to race.
Hyria's standing in her garden, playing with Erin.
As I opened the door, I closed my eyes, until I got inside fully. As I was expecting, when I opened my eyes, I saw Abby sitting at the dinner table, sipping on a cup of Hyria's famous cup of Jasmine tea.
I stood frozen, my eyes fixed on her. It had been over four long years since we'd last seen one another. In that time, we've both changed.
But now, as we stood face to face, the emotions overwhelmed us both.
Abby's eyes widened, and a gasp escaped her lips as she took in the sight of her mother. Her voice caught in her throat, and she struggled to find the words to express her joy and disbelief.
For a few precious moments, we just stood there, eyes locked, unable to say a word. It was an awkward silence, but in that silence, a connection was rekindled—a bond that had endured the test of time.
Finally, with tears shimmering in their eyes, I took a tentative step forward. Abby mirrored my movement, closing the gap between us. Our arms extended, trembling with anticipation, until we found each other in a warm, tight embrace.
Time seemed to stand still as we held each other, hearts beating in sync. The flood of emotions surged through our bodies, and a mix of laughter and tears escaped from their lips.
"I...I missed you so much," I whispered, my voice choked with emotion.
Abby nodded, her voice barely above a whisper. "I missed you too, Mom. I can't believe...this is really happening."
We pulled away slightly, our eyes locked once again, but this time with a new sense of familiarity. The years apart had created a void, but now it was being filled with love and acceptance.
A shy smile tugged at Abby's lips, and she reached out to touch her mother's face gently. "You've changed so much... Like your hair!"
My heart swelled with love, a soft blush gracing her cheeks. "And you've grown so much... I'm s sorry I haven't been there."
"It's okay! It's not your fault." Abby replied. "But seriously, what happened with your hair? It's so short, and... Brown?"
"Hair dye and a terrible hair cut. Um... But Abby. I know you want to catch up on at the fun details, but we need to talk."
