A few hours have passed, and I still haven't been able to decide. I'm standing by myself outside, leaning over the porch railing, thinking. What do I even choose? Hyria can keep them safe... Shad's not gonna find them here... But he's not the only one we have to worry about. Zane's still on the loose. Meaning Aph could be in danger if she goes by herself.
"You can't let her go?" I mutter to myself, smiling, seemingly solving both my problems.
"Let who go?" A voice calls from behind, surprising me.
"Uh... Garroth. Hey." I say, turning my head, to see him shutting the door behind him. "You've gotten better at sneaking up on me."
"We can't let who go?" He reiterates, ignoring my comment.
"I'm just a little worried about her going alone."
"As am I. But as someone very wise once said, "we must trust her judgement."" Garroth says, nudging my shoulder to calm me down.
I roll my eyes and look at him. Our eyes meet briefly, before I turn away and stare at the treeline. "This is different."
We sit there in silence for a few minutes.
I exhale, before asking, "Do you consider me a friend?"
"Why would you ask me something like that? Of course I do."
"Good. Because as do I. Hence why I'm going to tell you something. Something not even Lady Aphmau knows." I explain, changing the subject. "Regarding the whole Liochant situation. You blew up at me because I had blind trust in him... But it's not just because of her."
"What do you mean?"
"Years ago, when the world thought... Ill of me... A single man trusted me. We barely knew each other, yet he placed his entire life- No, not just his life, but everything he lived for in my hands. He had complete faith in me yet we had just met a day or maybe two prior."
"Jeffory?"
"No. Albeit, the man I met was a guard to a different well know lord, but not just that; he was in love with her... And she was in danger. So he trusted me. Unlike I, with Liochant, he had no reason to trust me of all people, but he did... And for that I am so grateful, because it's lead me to where I am today." I explain, before standing up tall. No longer leaning on the railing.
Garroth contemplates different responses, but decides to say nothing, unsure of what to even say.
I tilt my head slightly, looking at Garroth for a moment, before grinning, "I know you weren't there, but I thought you would have figured it out by now. He is-" I correct myself, "-was... A dear friend of yours."
"Laurence?" Garroth stammers.
"He's the reason I stayed." I place my hand on Garroth's shoulder, "I wish to give you my sincerest apologies if you felt I was choosing Liochant over you. I just saw a bit of myself in him. The way he was introduced to us, was akin to my first meeting with Aphmau."
"I suppose you're right. You are kind of like Liochant. Annoying and way too immature." Garroth snickers.
I glare at him, before laughing. Then adding, "And we're both Tu'Lians," partially to mess with Garroth, partially because it's true.
"Sorry? Since when were you a Tu'Lian?"
"Menphia was born in Tu'La. Many speculate she was actually a Meif'wa but I can confirm that's not true, clearly." I explain, pointing to my lack of cat-like ears.
"I really need to read up on the Divine Warrior's history... My knowledge on them seems to be lacking, because I didn't even know that."
I exhale, preparing to finally tell someone, seeing as the topic has been brought up, "You know, after all this time, I've never wanted to leave Aphmau. I became her guard for Laurence... But I stayed because... Because... I."
