By the time the plane land it was ten in the morning. “It’s a good thing its summer.” I thought as I slip on my sunglasses – a little too dramatic, if I may so myself – just as we step out of the airport. Brian chuckle as he put his sunglasses on. “Are we getting picked up or are we making our own way there?” I ask looking around the people waiting.

“I didn’t want to bother them so I told them we’ll make our way there.” Brian said grabbing mine and his suitcase with ease – I know mine isn’t light, I would know after all I packed it – as we walked to the taxi stand.

The taxi driver greeted Brian as he lead the way to the booth of his car and opened it for Brian while grabbing one of the suitcase and helping Brian put them in. “Where to my friend?” The driver asks with his New Yorker’s accent.

I zone out after that as I studied our driver. He was young around the age of mid-twenties to early thirties with strong jaw line and tanned skinned. His hair was dark brown but thick enough to be mistaken for black. His eyes were hazel with green around the iris that seems to brighten up as he talks to Brian about basketball.

I sigh. Men and their sports. I thought as I looked out of the window and watch every building pass by. The drive took at least an hour and half before we were in a more peaceful side ofNew York.

I knew instantly that the pack territory was outside the city as the scenery changed from skyscrapers to cosy looking houses just outsideNew York. “Here you go!” The driver said stopping in front of a massive house with massive iron gates.

Brian thanks the taxi driver before both of us steps out of the car. We took our belongings out of the booth before Brian paid the driver who wishes us fun before driving off.

“Are you sure we are in the right house?” I ask eyeing the mansion.

Brian looked at the piece of paper on his hand before looking at the street name and the number of the house. “Yeah?” He said but more like ask. “Beside my phone said this is the place as well.” Brian rang the door bell and soon enough the little screen show a man. “Hi, is this the Maya house?” Brian asks.

The man on the other line smiles and said “Ah! You must be Brian and Cherry! Come in! Come in!” He said excitedly before the screen went off. The iron gates let out a loud creak before slowly sliding to each side.

Brian and I looked at each other before walking through the gates. I looked right and left in awe as took everything in. The garden was breath taking. There was a fountain in the middle and different flowers were planted here and there from red to light pink.

The house was covered with ivy making it difficult to see what colour was the wall. The door was double and big with colourful windows around it. Brian walked to the foyer of the mansion and was about to ring the doorbell when the door suddenly swung open taking Brian in surprise.

“Welcome to Maya Pack.” The same man before greeted. “I’mEdmondor Eddie for short. I’m the beta of the Maya Pack.”

“Beta?” Brian asks slightly confuse just like I was. It was traditional to every pack that the Alpha will greet their guest along with their mate and their beta and the beta’s mate as well as the both their children if they have some.

“About that.” Eddie said scratching the back of his neck. “We been having problem with hunters lately. They were seen going in and out of the territory and we’re not exactly sure why but Hen…I meant Alpha Henry was called to an emergency meeting with the neighbouring packs to sort out the problem and he won’t be back for another three days.”

Silence

“Well, you must be tired.” Eddie suddenly broke the silence which earns a sigh of relief from Brian and me. Eddie notices the sigh and chuckles. “I’ll show you your room and dinner is around seven and everyone here eats at the same time.” He said sheepishly then quickly continued “Of course you are allowed to eat out if you guys like but let us know.”
