"What happened?" I asked as Lana let me into her house.

"I need to show you something," she replied, her eyes gleaming with excitement.

I checked my watch.

"I dunno, we do have to get to school on time. I don't wanna miss the Art lesson," I said as I glanced back at her.

"It won't be long, come on!" she replied, grabbing my wrist and leading me deeper into the house.

We reached the living room as Lana let go of my wrist and crouched to the ground.

My eyes widened in surprise as she began to remove some floorboards in front of the fireplace.

After removing about five floorboards she put her hand into her left jean pocket, taking out a small silver pocket knife.

"Lana what are you doin-" I moved forward to stop her but she managed to prick the tip of her finger before I grabbed the knife, taking it away from her.

She placed her pricked finger on a stone that had been hidden under the floorboards. My jaw dropped as the stone started to move on its own, slowly sliding to the left to reveal a hidden staircase.

"Come on!" She replied, excitement clearly in her voice as she began to go down the steps.

"Lana, are you sure about this? Don't you think it's the best if we go back up and to school? We don't even know what might be in here," I tried to reason but Lana ignored me and continued. Was she going nuts!? Who knows what's in there!? I hesitated, debating whether or not to go in. Unfortunately, my curiosity won. I followed Lana.

We arrived at the beginning of a tunnel.

"Lana, come on, we'll be late for school!" I replied, trying to pull her away, back to the staircase.

She ignored me, continuing into the tunnels. What should I do? Should I go in? I felt internal turmoil. I knew one thing. No way was I leaving my bestie in that dark tunnel!

Finally, with an exasperated sigh, I followed.

We walked for a few minutes and reached the end of the tunnel.

In front of us was a carved wall.

"Wow," I said, astonished by what I saw.

"It's ancient, do you know what it might be about?" Lana asked.

I stepped forward and touched the carvings.

There were carvings of gods, plants, animals and lot's of weird signs but what mostly caught my attention were the Latin words engraved in on the top and bottom.

"Do you mind if I take a picture? Maybe we can do some investigation later?" I asked. We weren't CIA but this was just too cool to pass on.

"Of course not, go ahead," Lana replied.

I stepped back and took out my phone.

After taking a photo, I stepped close to it and placed my hand in the round circle in the middle.

For some strange reason it felt like there was something inside and it was calling out to me.

I gasped and quickly retreated my hand, looking at the fresh wound at the side of my palm.

I glanced at the pointy rock which was now sprouting out of the center of the circle, my blood on its tip. What kind of Ancient tech was this!? I thought ancient people made booby traps in musty prisons and forests!

"You okay?" Lana asked as she checked the wound.

"Yeah" I replied, turning around.

"Let's go, we're gonna be late for school"

"Okay" Lana replied.

I took one more glance at the wall and turned around, stepping back into the tunnel.

"Do you know what it might be about?" Lana asked, placing the floorboards back in place.

"I dunno about the rest but the three gods on the sides seem familiar." I said as I squnted at the picture on my phone. It seemed familiar...

I went to google, going on image search. There were a few similar pictures and sources that provided enough information on the carvings.

"Wait a sec..."

"What?" Lana asked as she took her school bag.

"I-I think it's Apollo, the one on the left, that's the Greek god Apollo. Deity of Medicine, music, archery, truth, prophecy and diseases. Next to Apollo is Menrva, goddess of war, art, wisdom, and medicine. And... and the one on the right must be Nergal. The Mésopotamien god of death, war and destruction." I replied, comparing the carvings to other sources.

"But what does it mean?" Lana asked in a puzzled tone as we walked down the road.

"No idea" I said as I took a sharp breath.

Somehow deep down I had a feeling we might be uncovering some dark secrets, not just of Lana's house but also the old civilizations.
