"Alessa! I'm going to the hospital, do you want me to drop you off at Lana's place?"

I heard my dad call out from downstairs.

"No dad, I'll take more time to leave, besides it's just a small walk," I responded.

"Call me if you need anything or if something happens okay?" Dad replied as he walked into my room giving me a hug.

"Okay, you'll be able to visit mom soon, stay safe." Dad said quietly as I nodded.

I heard the main door click close as I packed the things needed for the sleepover.

The house was left in pin drop silence.

Now that mom was still in the hospital the house felt quite lonely.

Usually there would be at least the melody of mom's violin or some 80s music.

I didn't think much of it back then but now that it's not there I'm starting to miss it.

I felt my face slightly dampen as I touched my cheek to feel a tear sliding down.

A pit of loneliness grew in my stomach as I considered staying at home and wallowing in my misery.

I heard my phone vibrating as I walked over to the nightstand where it was charging.

I unplugged it from the charger as I answered the phone.

"Where are you!?" I heard Lana speak through the phone.

"Still at home, I'll be there soon," I replied as Lana let out a sigh of relief.

I heard the door open downstairs.

"One minute," I told Lana, peaking my head out of my bedroom door.

"Dad!" I called out.

Had he forgotten something? Hearing no reply, I walked out of my room to see what was going on.

"Dad," I called out as I reached the stairs.

I walked halfway down the stairs to see a man standing near the door, looking around.

What the hell?!

Seeing who it was, I considered screaming for help. But then again, maybe not, I didn't wanna be shot...

I tried my best to stay quiet, as I stood in place.

Too late.

My right hand let go of the phone.

I winced as I listened to the dreadful sound as the screen cracked on impact. I took in a sharp breath watching the man turn towards me.

It was the guy from the alley.

I quickly scrambled down to grab my phone, running my fingers down the crack on the screen.

Great.

I'm gonna have to use my allowances on that. There goes my dreams of a graphic tablet.

I looked back down the stairs to see the man carefully take a step forward as I retracted one step.

He put his hands in front of him in a surrendering motion.

"I'm not here to do you any harm, I just want to have a peaceful conversation. I give you my word," the man replied cautiously.

I wanted to scream, call the police or throw a tantrum until the guy left but something in me told me to listen to what he had to say.

"Well, say whatever you have to say, you can stay there, I'll stay here and we can talk," I said as I stood my ground. He nodded and sat cross legged on the floor at the base of the stairs.
