I huffed as I plopped down next to Lana, glaring at Ramon.
It's been barely half an hour since we were given the riddle and Ramon had already wasted two chances by guessing things that I'm pretty sure were not even words.
Arav was set to face the wall like a kid who behaved badly in class.
I racked my brain looking for anything that could help with finding the answer for this riddle.
What could be linked to the ancient world that met all the requirements in the riddle?
A chemical?
A bug?
And what would make celebrities look stupid and make pancakes brown?
Fire?
And does the 6th line mean air? Carbon dioxide?
Am I thinking too hard about this?
I glanced at Lana who was sitting next to me deep in thought.
"Ooh, I think I got it!!!" Ramon perked up, sounding like a toddler who found an easter egg.
"No more chances for any trivial guesses Ramon! Our life depends on the next answer we give!!" I glared daggers at him who clearly ignored my expression.
"Trust me! This time I'm sure I got it!! The answer is... mmff-" I looked up to see Lana holding her palm against Ramon's mouth, muffling his answer.
"NOT NOW! You might have lived enough but some of us still wish to live a little longer to have a good taste of life! Not to mention, I'll never be a scientist or an Architect and Alessa will never get to be a designer if you lead us to our DEATHS with your dense answers!!"
If glares could kill, Ramon would have ceased to exist by now considering how Lana was glaring at him.
Ramon visibly relaxed as Lana dropped her hand.
"THE ANSWER IS NO!!! No, We can't answer this riddle, that's the answer!" Ramon shouted.
Lana and I glared daggers at Ramon as he smiled sheepishly.
We looked at the Sphinx who had lifted his head from the book.
He looked at Ramon and let out a light smile.
"Your answer was correct, I didn't expect you all to answer it," I looked at Ramon who just gave a smug look.
Lana let out a sigh in relief and much to our surprise gave Ramon a light side hug.
"There is still a price to pay," the voice of the Sphinx broke out, dampening the mood.
Arav walked back to where we were standing beside me.
"Would this be enough?" Ramon asked, pulling out some gold coins from his pocket.
Wait, what!?
How in the world did he get gold coins??
Not to mention they looked quite old and historic.
"No," The Sphinx replied blankly, staring at Ramon.
"What about this?" Lana's voice broke the brief silence.
I looked at Lana to see her holding out a silver chain with a ruby pendant.
No, no way was she going to do that.
That pendant meant a lot to her, it had been handed down through their family for centuries.
"No, that would not work, valuable but not enough," the Sphinx rejected
"Is there anything else we could offer?" I asked, four pairs of eyes turned to face me.
"There might be something that you could offer, that is if you're willing to," the Sphinx replied, looking pointedly at me.
That was when I realized what the Sphinx was implying.
Unfortunately Arav seemed to come to the same conclusion just as fast as I did. His face turned grim, shaking his head.
"Milord I think that is something we can-"
"-We can offer! we can offer it!" I spoke up, cutting off Arav.
I stepped forward, grabbing the pocket knife, ignoring Arav's glare and Ramon and Lana's surprised looks.
I took a zip bag from my backpack, keeping it on the floor in front of the Sphinx.
I felt a light sting as the blade pierced my palm.
The thick crimson liquid seeped down my palm, dripping down to the bag.
I covered my hand with a cloth as I looked at the Sphinx.
"I hope this is a good trade," The Sphinx nodded, taking out a wooden box.
I gave him the bag of blood as he handed me the box. Gosh this is probably one of the weirdest trades...
"I keep my promises," he replied as he motioned towards a wall which opened up.
Ramon solved the riddle! Now that they have this ouroboros what'll happen? Why do you think they need the ouroboros anyway?
Sorry, I know this chapter is short but there will be longer ones.
