You saved me

Chapter 6

This is a small filler chapter not much will be in it.

Meredith's POV:

I was paged into the hospital early this morning for an emergency surgery so I told Alex and he promised to get Ellis ready and take her to preschool for me.

The surgery had lasted 4 hours and it was now 6:30am I walked out the scrub room pulling off my scrub cap. I wore a purple scrub cap as it is Ellis' favourite colour though she tends to change it. I played with my cap while walking down to the O.R. board when I saw Shepherd leaning next to it with 2 coffees.

'Rough morning?' I asked.

'Oh these' He chuckled looking at the two coffee cups. 'No one is mine but one is yours I saw that you have been in surgery since 2 long morning I'm guessing and a coffee would be good.'

I bit my lip and then put my hand out for the coffee which he then handed me. I noticed the scrub cap he was wearing on his head I always love looking at each surgeons scrub cap because they are personal to the person or means something to them. He was wearing a light blue ferry boat scrub cap which I then pointed up to.

'I like your scrub cap what's the meaning behind it?'

'Meaning?'

'You know... why did you choose that one?' I smiled up at him.

'I have a thing for ferryboats did you know that Seattle is mostly surrounded by water.' He said stepping closer to me.

'I did I used to live here when I was a kid but moved back a month ago I haven't been on a ferryboat before though.'

'You haven't been on a ferryboat?' He asked me more shocked.

'Nope no I haven't.'

'Well then that settles it your going to have to let me take you.'

'On a ferryboat?' I questioned him

'Yes on a ferryboat.' He crossed his arms and laughed.

'Um... okay' I began blushing a little 'I will take you up on that offer.'

'Good how about Saturday then, we can grab coffee like we agreed then ride out to the ferryboat but it would have to be early that's the best time.'

I stared into his eyes, his ocean blue ones gazing into my crystal ones. 'See you Saturday.' I smiled then winked at him. On that note I walked down the corridor pulling out my phone to call Alex. After a couple rings he finally picked up.

A very groggy voice answered 'hmm'

'Good morning to you too Karev its 6:40 why aren't you up yet. Is Ellis up?'

'Well I'm currently lying next to her in your bed god sake Mer she needs her own bed. Her hair is all tangled and I can see her drooling oh and she has these tiny little snores like yours except yours sounds more like a trucker, constantly waking me up. But don't worry all is fine we are about to get up though I'm going for a shower then I'll sort El out.'

'What would I do without you.' I exhaled leaning against the hospital walls.

'Starve.' He laughed

'Right well drop Ellis off then as soon as you get here you are scrubbing in with a resident called George O'Malley but he needs a bit of a push I believe so he's on your service this week. Bye.' I hung up the phone quickly sipping my coffee before heading off to my office to catch up on some paperwork.

Derek's POV:

It wasn't even 7am and my day was going great Meredith and I were going to grab some coffee and ride the ferryboat on Saturday. She is easy to strike conversation with and I want to get to know her as more than friends. I don't know if Saturday is a date or not I should probably talk to her about it. I hope she would be open for a date, though if we did go on a date I would do it a lot different.

It all started when I saw Meredith's name on the O.R. board this morning for a general surgery I still find it so amazing that she is double board certified in two specialities. It was 6:20am and she had been in since 2 the board said so I thought I would grab her some coffee.

Alex's POV:

Meredith woke me up with a phone call I mean it was time for me to get up and make a move but still it interrupted my sleep. I told her that all was fine and Ellis was sleeping peacefully, she looked like she was having the best sleep ever with her lips pushed up on the pillow and her hair all tangled everywhere.

I got ready for work by jumping in the shower and getting dressed. Then I slowly woke Ellis up picking her up into my arms as we went downstairs. I got some pop tarts out the pantry and sorted them for Ellis. I then sat her to the table and that was when she asked me where her dolly was, to that question I had no clue I told her I would find her doll once she has finished breakfast. I put on a pot of coffee then went to clean the living room. As folding up one of the blankets I noticed an arm coming out of the couch. Thank god I found Ellis' baby or it would be one stressful morning. Ellis then walked in the living room and I handed her her baby whilst sitting her on the couch.

'Hey El I'm going to turn on some cartoons for you whilst I get your bag packed then we need to brush your teeth and I will do your hair in the bathroom.'

She turned to look at me 'Oke Uncle Awex'

I smiled back at her. She has got to be my favourite human ever on this earth I love her like my own. I packed a book, her lunch and a spare set of clothes into her backpack.

'Right come on Ellis let's go brush your teeth please.'

She slowly scooted herself off the couch and walked into the bathroom. I pulled up the little step so she could reach the sink and I helped her put the toothpaste on her toothbrush. Whilst she brushed her teeth I pulled out the detangle comb which Mer had shown me as Ellis' hair looked a lot like a birds nest.

After some time of fighting the tangles I caught Ellis' attention 'El how do you want your hair today I have been learning how to do hair so don't worry it shouldn't be too bad.' I giggled to her.

She showed me with her hands she gabbed a piece of hair from each side of her face and pulled it behind her obviously insisting she wanted two plaits with her hair half up half down.

'Great Choice and once I have done this we need to change out your jammies and put on some day clothes.' I finished her hair then got her changed into the white spring dress she chose which had little purple petals all over it and some matching frilly socks and white buckle shoes to go with it.

'Right come on then lets get in the car ready to head off to school. See if that nice boy your mum was telling me about is there. Max was his name?'

Ellis nodded 'Yeah come lets go.' She grabbed my hand ready to walk out the door.

I got in the car after putting Ellis in and dropped her off she went in just fine and not a problem. I then put in the directions to the hospital and went there as I remember Meredith said I was booked for a surgery straight off the bat. I sent her a quick text before I left the preschool.

Hey Mer, just dropped Ellis in she went in fine all happy and smiling I left after seeing her and Max walking over to the paint so make room on the fridge as she will more than likely have a picture in stock. Be at the hospital in 20!
