Three years ago

Sara looked at herself in the mirror with her hands held lightly on her stomach. Her rich brown hair hung loosely around her face in beautiful waves and her chocolate eyes held excitement for her date this evening. She had decided to wear a deep purple halter dress that came down to her knees and she kept her makeup light, just a little eyeshadow and eyeliner and some blush. Thankfully her acne had been better the past week, so she was blemish free for tonight. Acne was something she had been struggling with for a few years.

Her date was with none other than Kai Jenson, star of the high school basketball team. For some reason he had decided to take her to the party, she didn't even think he knew she existed. Yet he had asked last night just after the basketball game. A small blush crept up her cheeks. Kai was the hottest guy in school, followed closely by his best friend Kyle Hasting. Every girl in school wanted to be draped on their arms. She'd had a crush on Kai all throughout high school. He was a senior and she was a junior.

The doorbell rang and Sara's focus was brought back to reality. She smiled and quickly grabbed her phone and went to the door before her parents or siblings could answer it. Opening the door, she took in the tall 6'4" man with black hair that was slightly long yet fell in all the right places. His sea blue eyes looked at her and smiled. Dang he's hot Sara thought to herself.

"Hi" Kai says after looking her up and down.

"Hello" she replies in a quiet whisper as a blush quickly creeps up onto her cheeks. Suddenly embarrassed she quickly yells back into the house to let her parents know she was leaving, "Bye!" then closed the door behind her before they had a chance to respond. She really didn't want her parents to act embarrassing towards her date.

They walked to Kai's car, and he quickly said "you look nice tonight"

Slightly smiling, she responded "Thank you. Are you excited for the party?"

"I am"

There was an awkward silence as they drove over to Kyle's house. His parents were away for the weekend so, like any teen, he was holding a party. This was actually the first party that Sara was going to. She was a quiet girl who liked to read and play the piano. She didn't normally get asked to go to parties like this. Her best friend Kaylee was insanely jealous that Sara was asked to go with Kai. She was hoping to see Kaylee tonight at the party so they could catch up.

Loud music soon filled the air as they pulled up to Kyle's house. Kai helped her out of the car and butterflies danced in her abdomen as they walked up the steps. The house was bustling with activity. Bodies were moving, some people were dancing, others were making out wherever they could.

"Would you like a drink?" Kai asked loudly over the music.

"I'll have some water!" Sara replied. She didn't plan on drinking tonight. Her parents would be furious at her if they found out she was underage drinking.

Kai left for their drinks and Sara stood awkwardly while she waited for him. He hadn't returned after several minutes so she decided to walk around and see who else was here. Several of her friends flitted about and she saw Kaylee in the corner making out with her boyfriend. Well, guess I'll have to catch up with her later I suppose Sara thought to herself as she grinned. Leaving her friend behind she went in search of her date who she thought she spotted in the kitchen.

"Here, I got you some lemonade" Kai said as he handed her the drink. She nodded as she took the cup from his hands.

"Thank you" She took a gulp and nearly gagged. That was the worst tasting lemonade she had ever had.
"Hey Sara," Kai said leaning in close to her, "let's go dance". Without waiting for her to respond he quickly grabs her hand and pulls her to the living room where others were dancing.
