Sara
Sara woke up with a smile on her face. Today was Kai's birthday and she had a fun evening planned. They each had class and work, but that wasn't going to stop her from celebrating with him. Sara sent Kai a quick text.
Sara: Happy Birthday! Can't wait for tonight!
Kai: Thanks! I'm excited to see what you've cooked up! Don't let the weekend get you down! Love you!
Sara: Aww. Love you too!
They had worked an adoption event over the weekend. It had been successful, however there were still no takers for Bruno and Ashby. They had six weeks left. Six weeks to find them a home. Sara's smile quickly dampened with that thought.
After a shower and getting dressed for the day, Sara ambled out to the kitchen where she found Casey sitting at the table eating some cereal.
"Morning" Casey said cheerfully between bites.
"Morning" Sara returned, but with less enthusiasm than her friend's.
Sara hadn't seen much of Casey lately as both of them have been busy with school, work, and personal lives. Casey had been coming home later and later than her normal but whenever Sara would ask about it Casey would brush her off or give some lame excuse. Sara decided not to push too hard. Casey would eventually share what was going on with her.
"What all do you have planned for tonight? I know it's Kai's birthday, but is it just you and him tonight or is there a party?" Casey inquires, without looking up from her cereal.
Sara studied her friend for a moment before responding. "There's a little party over at Kai's. AJ and a few of his coworkers, Asher from our class..." Sara listed, "Would you like to join us? The more the merrier, right?"
"Sure. I could head over after rehearsal."
They chatted for a few minutes, catching up with each other and things going on with school before they each headed out to their respective classes. Casey to the school of business and Sara to the liberal arts building.
Sara sat down in her first class, Social Development, and pulled out her things. This was her hardest class, apart from her project with Kai in Philosophy. She had managed to pass her midterm with an 'A', which had surprised her greatly.
Students filed into the room and her professor soon followed. Today's lesson was a continuation of their previous lesson on child abuse; however, today's topic was one Sara had no inclination to fully listen to. They were covering rape and sexual assault and how that affects the child's social development. This wasn't a topic she was keen on at the moment, given her own experience with rape. She knew she could probably contribute to the lesson with her own thoughts on the matter, however, like usual, Sara kept most of her opinions to herself while in class.
Sara decided to work on party details for tonight and some other homework rather than take notes. She could still type on her laptop while making it seem like she was taking notes. A skill she had learned her second semester. She sent a group text to the party goers, reminding them what time to be at the condo. Then, she separately sent AJ a message to confirm a few more details like food.
The rest of the day passed by in a similar pattern. Sara was too distracted between the party, work for other classes, and project details. Sara had even started looking into rescues out of state that might be able to take in Bruno and Ashby.
After classes were over, Sara headed over to Kai's to start setting up. AJ didn't have classes on Mondays, so he was able to go and get most of the food.
