Kai

All night Kai had a hard time sleeping. The terror in her eyes haunted him all night long. He wasn't one hundred percent sure how PTSD always worked. He knew Sara suffered from it and thought she had been doing great the last while. According to Casey anyways.

He didn't feel like he could leave Sara alone, even if Casey was here. Kai asked Casey if he could spend the night on the couch. She was reluctant to at first, but when he insisted that he'd spend the night in his truck instead, she relented.

He decided to text Kyle last night and see if he happened to be in town. He tried to be discreet by saying he thought he saw him around town and was seeing if he wanted to go out for drinks or something if he was.

Kyle responded this morning saying that he was in the middle of killer midterms and was definitely not in Colorado.

He felt better knowing that it was just someone who sounded like him.

Sara was safe.

His feelings ran deep, and he knew he loved her. He would do anything for her.

Kai was eating lunch in the breakroom while he worked on the website for Dusty Paws. Sam had done some website design when he was first in college, and he was a great resource for Kai.

"The site is looking good. You may want to get some photos of current fosters and create a bio for each one. I know I would like information on a dog or cat that I was looking to adopt." Sam said and then took a bite of his sandwich.

Kai agreed with him and put that down in his content notes. He could have Ashley ask each foster family to write one to submit for the website.

He finished eating and then packed up to head to school. They had their presentation today and Kai didn't want to be late. He didn't want Sara to worry, he knew she was nervous for the presentation, but the added Kyle scare had pushed her close to the edge. He hadn't had a chance to tell her what he found out yet. He didn't want to do it over text and work had been busy enough that morning that he barely had a few minutes to eat lunch. By the time he could take a few minutes, she was in an exam.

He made it to class a few minutes early and found Sara pacing outside the classroom. He watched her for a few seconds while walking down the hall before heading over to her. She was wearing a pencil skirt and a button blouse. She looked very business-like and ready to take the world on. Her hair hung loosely down her back with slight curls. Every time he saw her, no matter how much makeup, or lack thereof, or what she wore, she took his breath away.

She stopped her pacing when she saw him. His heart warmed knowing that he was her calm.

He pulled her into a hug and caressed her head

"Before we go in there" he started, "I talked to Kyle this morning. He said there was no way he is in Colorado, last night or currently, as he is in the middle of his own midterms. You heard someone else last night." He gently cupped her cheeks "You're okay. You are safe."

She nodded. A look of relief crossed her eyes.

"Thank you she whispered"

"Now," He said pulling back, "Let's go in there and kick our presentation out of the water"

She gave a little laugh and then they walked in, hand in hand.

Sara

They rocked their presentation. Professor Larsen was impressed with the work they were doing and the donated computer equipment from Sudo. Kai was still working on the website and the finished product was going to be part of their final presentation.
