Kai
The sun was shining through the room as Kai woke up. He had forgotten to close his room darkening curtains last night and the sun woke up him up earlier than normal. He glanced over at Sara as she slept peacefully, her head cuddled up to his chest and her hand resting on his stomach. She had a little bit of drool coming out and he smiled. His hand played lightly with her hair.
This is what he wanted. To go to sleep every night with Sara in his arms and know that she would be the first thing he would see in the morning.
Kai was thankful to be back in Colorado, away from his family. Their Thanksgiving break did not go as planned and Kai purposefully kept his confrontation with Kyle away from Sara. He didn't want her to panic. Sara was everything to Kai. He only had a few people left in his life and he couldn't lose her too.
Ever since their trip they were basically inseparable and would often spend the night at each other's place. Sometimes exploring and other times just sleeping. The only time they weren't with each other was when they were at work or in class.
Sara's eyes blinked open, and she looked up at him while snuggling even closer.
"Morning" she whispered
"Morning" he said stroking her lower back, tracing the area just above her backside.
Sara suddenly sat up quickly "Oh dear, I drooled on you, I'm so sorry!" She said horrified.
"Relax, babe" Kai chuckled, "You're cute when you drool."
She groaned and then laid back down on him. "Ugh, I highly doubt that."
Kai decided to ask her a question he'd been thinking about all week. "Would you want to stay in Colorado or move somewhere else after you finish school?"
Her fingers traced his chest, and he closed his eyes, loving the comfort. "I actually want to stay here in Colorado. I'm not set on a particular place, but this area has been nice. I don't think Utah or New Mexico would be that bad either. Maybe Wyoming, but they get a little colder than here. What about you? Will you be heading back to California?"
He kissed the top of her head. "No. I will be wherever you are." He decided to change the topic, knowing now that he could look for a house. "What all do you have going today?"
Sara reached over to grab her phone and look at her calendar. "Umm, I have class and then I need to work for a few hours at the shelter"
"Good, that means we have some time." He rolled on top of her, staring at the beauty beneath him then kissed her, desire coursing through him.

Kai sat at his desk, switching between work, the website, and looking at houses. He was getting close to having the website completed and he was pleased with how it was coming together. He was supposed to meet with a realtor tomorrow about what all he was looking for and what he could afford.
Several phone calls came in that Kai needed to help the end user with. Thankfully he had worked there long enough that he didn't need Justin's help for the little things anymore. However, one of the issues he was dealing with was beyond his knowledge. Unfortunately, Justin was busy helping a client restore backups after the client had ransomware installed in their system. Problems like that tended to be an all day and all-nighter type of deal. Kai was glad he didn't need to help with that today.
Kai reached out to Sam for some help and was able to toss the client his way to finish up with the problem. With that handed off, he went back to working on a presentation he was supposed to give on their next Thursday lunch. It was nothing major, just an update on a server project for a current client.
While working on the financial aspect of the project, Kai's cell phone buzzed. Glancing down at it, he was surprised to Christi's profile picture looking up at him. He hesitated to answer it. It was in the middle of the day, and she should be in school.
"Hey sis. What's up?" he hadn't spoken to her since the day after Thanksgiving when she had brought him his suitcase as well as a few other things he didn't want to leave at his parents' home. He never planned to go back.
"Kai?" her voice was muffled and garbled, and he could barely make out what she was saying.
"Christi, I can barely hear you."
"There, is this better?" she asked.
"Much. What's going on? You never call me during school."
"I'm not at school. I was meeting Jason this morning to run some reports. That's actually why I called."
An uneasy feeling settled in his stomach as he listened to her speak.
"Dad's been really upset, angry even since last week. Constantly going off and ranting about how he's going to make you take over the company. It's been a little scary."
Kai frowned. He knew his father would be upset, but even this seemed out of character for him.
"Are you and mom okay?"
"Yeah, it's nothing like that." He heard her take a deep breath. "I'm worried about Sara. I think he's planning something to do with her."
Kai's blood ran cold. "What do you mean?"
"Well, when I came in this morning, I had to pass by dad's office and it was slightly ajar, barely really. Dad's not usually even in the office this early, which is why I felt okay to pass by his office. You know I usually stay low when I go to the office."
"Christi, get to the point"
"Oh right. Sorry. I could hear him doing his usual rant about you and Sara and he was speaking to someone. I didn't get a good look until they left the office.
"Kai, he said he wanted to force you back to the company. He told them to do whatever they felt like to get rid of Sara."
"Who?" he bit out and his fists clenched. "Who was it?"
"Chelsea and some other guy. I'm not really sure who he was. He looked familiar, but I can't place him. I'm really worried about Sara. Dad has completely gone off his rocker and I'm worried he's going to hurt her, hurt you.
"Please be careful, Kai. Keep Sara safe."
"I will. Thank you for telling me Christi. You be safe as well. Do not, under any circumstances, let father know you overheard him."
Christi hung up and Kai immediately left the office to pace outside.
He expected this kind of behavior from Chelsea, she's been trying to break them up for months, but his own father? Guess he shouldn't be too surprised with how their last conversation went. Why was he so desperate to have Kai take over the company?
None of it made much sense. Who was this other person with Chelsea? He needed to find out so he can be on guard.
Kai made a couple calls to a security team his parents liked to use while traveling and asked for recommendations on a local firm. After hanging up he called the local firm and arranged for someone to discreetly watch Sara and keep her safe.
He felt a little relief knowing that someone would watch her when he can't.
Kai decided to make one more call, this time to Rose, his father's secretary. He needed to find out who his father met with this morning and knew she would be discreet about it.
