Sara

A few weeks went by and there was still no interest in Bruno or Ashby at any of the adoption events. Sara was beginning to feel hopeless. Kai kept assuring her that they'll find a home, but short of adopting them herself -- and becoming homeless if she did – she didn't know what else to do. No matter how many times she complained about the situation, or anything else for that matter, Kai never once got mad or frustrated at her.

Despite his flaws, Kai had actually turned out to be a great boyfriend. He never pushed her more than she could handle. She found it was easier to be around others and her confidence had grown. She previously had the habit of knowing all exits, anywhere she went and always planned an escape route should she need it. She especially avoided places that only had one entrance or exit, such as the private rooms in the library.

Speaking of which. Her and Kai were going to be working on their midterm presentation later today at the library. Sara had reserved a private room at the library, and she was going to surprise Kai with it once they arrived. Their presentation was set for tomorrow.

Progress with the project was going well and Sara was relieved to be halfway done with the semester. She and Kai had been studying nearly every night together to get ready for their midterms. Sometimes it would be at her apartment, sometimes they studied at his, but they mostly studied at the library. She enjoyed his company, and they rarely went a day without seeing each other.

Casey had been absent these past few weeks. She was always gone when Sara came home and would get home late at night, usually after Sara had gone to bed. Whenever Sara would ask her things or try to make plans, she would evade her or change the subject. Sara was worried for her friend, and she was concerned that Casey was feeling sidelined as her best friend.

Sara was waiting for Kai on the steps to the library when he finally walked up. Her heart filled when he pulled her into a hug and kissed her cheek. They still hadn't officially kissed, and Kai made sure not to pressure her.

"Hey beautiful" he said.

She blushed, as usual, whenever he said things like that to her. They walked into the library hand in hand and headed up the stairs. Kai started to head over to their usual corner, but she pulled him in another direction.

"I actually have a surprise for you" she smirked and led him to one of the private rooms which were down another hall. She walked into the room and waited for him to follow.

Seeing where they were he stopped in the doorway and gave her a curious look.

"Are you sure about this?" he asked.

She nodded and pulled him the rest of the way in. "It makes more sense to work on presenting in here where we won't bug others. I can do this." She smiled and closed the door.

The room was large enough for a table that would fit about six people, there was a tv on one wall and there were windows on the other two walls. One set of windows let you view outside and the other gave them a view of the hallway into the library. They were alone yes, but others could still see in.

She gave squeal and laughed as he reached out and pulled her to him.

"You are amazing" he said, and the butterflies scattered in her stomach.

They worked on their presentation until it was a well-oiled machine. Kai finished putting the slideshow together and they rehearsed it several times to make sure they got it. Then they sat down to go over any potential questions they might be asked during the presentation. When they felt they had an answer to most questions, they moved on to studying for their other classes.
