The whistle trilled sharply as the ball landed on the opposite court, both you and your opponent winded.
You'd both played for five sets to decide who would represent the school in the interhigh tournament this autumn, which would hopefully get you to nationals.
"Nice, L/N!" Kendo grinned as the two of you shook hands, though tears were visibly glistening in her eyes.
You pulled her in effortlessly, giving her a short embrace. She would come with you either way, as each school needed two representatives, should something happen to the first. But not being the main representative was a bummer, especially for those on a sports scholarship, like you and Kendo.
Leaving the court, you grabbed your water bottle and towel, throwing your racket into its designated bag. Though when you looked up briefly, a pair of amethyst eyes met your own.
